Oh God I'm Freaking Out. 6 Weeks and Bleeding

I just had a miscarriage in May, and I'm already 6 weeks along again. This morning I had a teeny bit of crampyness, so I went to have a bm and I dropped a quarter sized drop of blood in the toilet. I am freaking out! I have my first sonogram scheduled for tommorow, but I don't think I can wait that long to see if everything is ok. Should I go to the E.R.??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I did end up at the hospital. I miscarried. :(

I'm so, so sorry to hear that. I had a miscarriage at 15 weeks the first time I was pregnant, but ended up having 2 successful full-term pregnancies soon after. Don't give up - the end result will be worth it! Take care, I know this is a tough time for you.

Bethany,
I know you're scared. I had 3 miscarriages before my son was born. I know a couple things:
1. What is going to be is going to be. No amount of putting your feet up and resting in bed will "fix" a miscarriage IF that's what it is.
2. Some bleeding happens during some pregnancies. It might be implantation bleeding or some other benign explanation.
3. Try to stay calm. I know it's terrifying but TRY to relax.
4. When I had bleeding as a sign of miscarriage it was dark/brownish. Nor red and bright.
Hang in there til the sonogram and i will say a prayer for you and your baby that all is well! :-)

Call your doctor but don't rush to the ER. A small amount of blood is not completely uncommon during normal pregnancies. I'm not sure what the ER will do for you other than completely stress you out even more with doctors you don't know. Unless you are still bleeding or having extreme cramping, there's not much to do, is there?

I'm so sorry about your miscarriage but it sounds like you got pregnant right away afterwards. This may be a bit stressful for your body. Try to take care of yourself.

Been there done that. Go to the ER and call your OB on the way or have some one else call. This stress isn't good for you, and if you had a miscarrage before the Dr. should understand and call the ER to tell them to take care of you.

Good luck!

Don't go to the ER unless your OB says to go. The doctors in the ER are not specialist in pregnancy. There are times they may not make the best decisions for your situation. Since it is just a little blood, sit down with feet elevated and call your OB to settle your fears.

My prayers are with you!

call your OB. bleeding isn't that uncommon, but given your history it would be too much to expect for you to not to worry. get a call into your doctor right away, then lie down and do whatever you do to calm yourself (meditation, reading, prayer.) if your doc thinks you should go to the ER then have your SO or a friend drive you there. keep breathing!
my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I don't personally see what the E.R. will do any sooner than waiting for tomorrow, especially for a bit of blood. There isn't anything you can do to prevent anything from happening at this stage in the game except try very hard to stay calm. I have experienced bleeding all through my pregnancy, in the exact way that you explain. I am now 24 weeks. I thought I had a miscarriage, or was going to have one due to the bleeding, however come to find out, I have a polyps that is the root cause of the bleeding. They can't take care of it until after the pregnancy, so, I just have to deal with the bleeding and try not to freak out.... very unsettling, I know! Good luck to you. I wish you all the best :-)

I know it's easier said then done, but I would relax for the day...sit on the couch all day and don't do any heavy lifting, exercises, NOTHING! Then go to your OB 1st thing in the morning. ER are dirty and they can scare you more than you need to be!

Totally understand! I had bleeding in my first pregnancy. Most of the time bleeding in early pregnancy is nothing serious. I bled more than that and this is what the nurse told me when I called in:
**If you bleed more than a pad in an hour-go to the ER** and to keep my appointment with my doc that was scheduled for the next week.

Of course, we aren't your doctor and don't know your full medical history so give your doctor a call and follow their advice.

You should call if it will make you feel better. Just relax today as much as you can. Maybe watch movies that you have wanted to see to keep your mind off it.

I am so sorry. Before I saw your follow-up, I was going to tell you that the ER wouldn't help much. Either they don't take it seriously and pat you on the head, tell you some bleeding is normal during pregnancy, and send you back home (even though you do in fact happen to be miscarrying--been there, done that), or they do take it seriously but can't do anything to help. Or sometimes it all turns out to be okay. I so wish that it had turned out okay for you, hon. You have been through a lot of sadness in a short amount of time. My heart is aching for you. Please take care of yourself.

Well I hope everything is alright. With my first I started bleeding around 9 weeks and bled for 3 weeks straight! I had placenta previa. It was really scary and I did have to go on bedrest for those 3 weeks but then I was fine and so was my baby. Now she is 3 1/2 happy and healthy as ever. So hang in there everything might turn out just fine.

I also got pregnant just weeks after an early miscarriage and had two very large bleeds (6 weeks and 12 weeks). Both times there was more blood than when I miscarried so it was very scary. My OB told me both times to just take it easy and come to my regular appointments. He thought it might have been implantation bleeding.
He never did find out what caused the bleeds and I gave birth to a perfect baby boy in June 2009. After my delivery my nurse told me the bleeds were most likely caused by the miscarriage and my body not being totally back to normal. Apparently you are supposed to wait 3-4 cycles before getting pregnant again, but I am proof that is not necessary and at my age I was not going to wait. Hopefully this is the case with you too.
There is nothing they can do to help at the ER - it is too early for any kind of intervention and the expense and stress are not worth it. I will be sending good thoughts and hope you get good news at your sonogram.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had 5 documented miscarriages before carrying my daughter and had to spend the ENTIRE pregnancy in bed. I know the pain you are experiencing and I just want you to know if you need to vent or talk, not just now, but in the weeks to come, please feel free to contact me. I don't want to give you a lot of details because you are hurting so bad right now. My heart aches for you and I wish I could come and just hug you right now.

God bless and keep you. He never forsakes you!
