If there is yeast in her digestive tract then it will be very difficult to get it to go away by using topical creams alone. Cut out sugar and processed foods (yeast feeds on sugar) and give her a probiotic along with whatever you are using to get rid of the infection.

HI Jessica,

If yeast is visible, then her whole system is eaten up with it. Thrush, vaginal infections, rashes are the outward sign of an inside problem. The creams may help the discomfort but they don't make the infection go away, only back it off a little. A good prebiotic/probiotic will absolutely help her but she needs to get completely off of sugar. That means white bread, potatoes, formula if she is on it and refined sugars off course. Sugar feeds yeast and unless it is completely out of her diet, the monstrous stuff will keep breeding.

Yeast is a nasty pest but it can cause serious disease if it's not caught quickly enough. Be glad you know what it is and you're being proactive!

God bless,

M.

My daughter had a similar problem. She had diaper rash that turned into a yeast infection and kept coming back for months. After 2 different medications, feeding her yogurt every day, and 3 trips to the doc, my doctor asked if I had recently changed her diet -- we figured out that I had been giving her too many mandarin oranges (she loves them) and the acid in her poop irritated her skin, which then allowed the yeast to take hold. I quit giving her the oranges and everything cleared up. So, maybe take look at your daughter's diet and cut back on anything acidic.

It might be a different kind of fungus. My dd had these for the first three years of her life. It was awful, but the lotramins of the world did not work. Take her to the doc and see what else he can perscribe. We lived in another country and we found something that works there, it was called TriDerm. But I don't know if such a thing exsits here.

I do know that this is usually caused by low estrogen levels in young girls. It will get better by the time she's three.

If you haven't seen a doc about this, I would go. Another thing that can happen as a result of low E is labial adhesion.

I agree with the other mama, who suggested probiotics. They work wonders. A good yogurt with cultures (like Stonyfield Farm's yo baby) will help, also

Motherlove diaper rash and thrush is a good preventative product.

Also, let her run around without diapers as much as possible to give the area some air.

give her more water. get some arbonne diaper rash ointiment. if the nystasin didn't work niether will monistat 7. if athletes foot creme is not working neither will jock itch meds. I have been through this with 2 boys the youngest was the worst. feed her yougurt. probotics help but my son I have a hard time getting it in him. cut all sugar. no juice. I put mine on like a diabetic diet. he gets whole grain bread only. if you make koolaid use spenda. it has no after taste. cut down on the milk and cheese. increase the protien. if you make rice use brown rice. and same on the noodles use whole grain noodles.

increase the protien and water is what helped my youngest the most. all of the people who tell you cut the sugar in a way are telling you the same thing i am maybe in a diffrent manner. popcorn and corn turn to sugar. chips turn to sugar. use flour tortillas instead of bread the body processes the sugar slower and whole grain tortilla are better even. cut down on the fruit and if you buy fruit buy whole fruit if it is canned or frozen make sure it has splenda in it. if you give her ice cream make sure it is a splenda ice cream. grapes are high sugar. cut down on milk as much as possible without cutting it to much. mine is restricted to no more than 3 glasses a day. milk does turn to sugar. if you can get wic to give it to you use 2% instead of whole. crackers turn to sugar. so use whole wheat as much as possible. crackers and peanut butter are ok. if she won't drink water buy a pur water filter that adds flavor to it or I get drops at the health food store that are sugar free and are like vanilla creme. that is how I got mine to drink more water.

go to hypoallergenic wipes. use vinegar in her bath water. it nuetralizes the yeast supposedly. change frequently which I am sure you already are. and let her go naked as much as possible. if you let her swim which I would advise against make sure you change her immediately. go into my profile into my questions asked and you will see 2 or 3 questions on this and the answers I was given and believe me I tried them all but the diabetic diet and increase in water and no juice seemed to help the best of all advice. good luck if you have any questions feel free to ask. my son had one for a year and a half and I have tried all old wives tales and diaper rash ointment on the market.

First, be certain that it is a yeast infection and not a bacterial infection. This misdiagnosis happens a lot in adult women, so I imagine it could happen in little girls as well.

Avoid soaping inside the vaginal area. Just rinse with clean water...let nature do what it is meant to do.

No bubble baths. In fact, skip the bath altogether and just rinse her while sitting on a little stool.

Completely dry the area before applying any treatment. I used a hair dryer throughout our diaper time and managed to avoid using too much diaper cream and healed what we did have very quickly.

If she eats yogurt, make sure it is good active culture stuff...if she isn't eating it, consider adding it. Cut down on anything sugary...including juice and fruit.

I also have broken open an acidophilus caplet right on the the rash before. Can't swear it made a difference, but did it on some advice.

Oh, please stop the athlete's foot cream! You need to be careful--children can not handle OTC drugs at all...You need to talk to your pediatrician and get a cream that is weak enough for her to tolerate. You could end up doing much more harm than good by using the other items. Also--you need to combat it from the inside. First and foremost--give her yogurt. Second--limit her intake of sugar--NO juices, koolaid, cookies, candies, etc. Any popsicles or ice cream needs to be sugar free until you get this cleared up. You also want to watch her starch intake as well--including breads. Yeast thrive on sugars and starches. Stay away from white bread. They only turn into paste. Whole grain breads only. Give her lots and lots of water. Hope she gets cleared up soon!

Do you give her yogurt?? Also, have you tried a probiotic? Either of these might work.

Mine was having fits. I started adding salt and vinegar to the bath. It really does help. and air. My littlest reacted to the diapers, a bit of air can help also. Put down a towel and let her nap bare.
I also use monostat now on the rub infections she did experience from not wiping well.

Hello~
Have you talked to your doctor about this? Also, try different yogurts until
you find one she likes. Yogurt fights off bad bacteria. Maybe you could add it to her daily feedings. Also, be careful with laundry detergent and body soaps. She may have to be changed more frequently. Definately talk with your doctor. Also, google "yeast infections" and read if any food makes it worse. Good luck!

Try four ounes of Dannon yogurt with live cultures daily. Cut out sugar that feeds the yeast. Have her wear loose clothing during the day with some time with her bottom uncovered.

Read the book called The Yeast Connection. You need to remove all sugars/sweetners/artificial and natural from her diet. Check the yogart you are giving her... it probably has added sweetner. Use one without. eating breads will also give the yeast a reason to continue growing. Everytime she takes an antibiotic, the yeast will come back. Make sure she is completely dry (so air dry for a while), then apply desitin really thick to keep moisture away from her skin. Yeast is a chronic problem. It's terrible and very impossible to get rid of. Also, you can look into Grapefruit seed extract. I use this w/ my kids; but they are older.

I really like what Denise S. said. I would caution about switching to 2% milk. It might help to get rid of the yeast; but the down side is that the brain desperately needs all the fat it can get from the milk until at least the age of 3 years.
