I am posting on numerous sites about this.. praying for help! Ok, I'll try to not make this a novel! My lil one, Danielle, is having the hardest time with table food! She wants everything we eat but can't handle her graduates stuff. I tried the ravioli and she loved it. That night she was screaming in pain for THREE hours. Well, I thought teething. Then the next night the same thing. Now I know she can't eat green beans or squash. So I thought, stop the new food! I did and she was back to sleeping all night. Ok, coincidence?! So this week I tried the pasta shells with cheese. She LOVED it! Yet again, she was up last night SCREAMING for THREE hours again!! I know it's her tummy because she wants to sleep but keeps putting her knees to her chest! Has anyone had this?! I have two friends that have kids with a gluten allergy. Go figure, neither are answering the phones this morning! LOL So I've turned to the internet!! Quick recap on her short year of life... she was nursed for nine months and was colicky for four months. She tolerates milk just fine to. Not to mention, I have Crohn's disease, so tummy problems run in the family! What do I do? What should I feed her?? I've tried banana and she gags, yet loves banana baby food. I have tried a few veggies and she won't eat them, once again, loves her baby food veggies! Help!!!
PS...
I am waiting for the pediatrician to call me back. I just was looking for some feedback while I wait!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks, but we found out that she has an extreme sensitivity to cerrageenan. It's an AWFUL preservative found in tons of foods. Here I think I am doing a good thing on keeping her on Gerber foods and they add this petroleum preservative that is PROVEN to cause ulcers and better yet.... CANCER! Nice, eh?! Well, I am totally switching to organic and that will help her. Google it mommys.... it's nasty! Thanks for the responses though!

Have you asked your pediatrician about this? 3 hours of screaming with her legs drawn up sounds like she is seriously in a lot of pain and discomfort. I wouldn't rely on the internet for an answer to this; this sounds pretty bad.

She can get her tested for gluten/whey allergies and then refer u to a dietician who can help you make good food choices for her. Or a GI specialist. Esp with your family hx of Crohn's, she could be definately having some gastrointestinal symptoms. Good luck.

you said it isnt lactose intolerance? my daughter was the same way, and she is lactose intolerant. if you want to know you need to not give her any dairy at all for 5-7 days. very hard to do, if she is fine you know she is lactose intolerant. not the end of the worls, they have milk now they can drink, and my daughter is 3 1/2 so if she wants ice cream or nachos etc, she just chews a lactaid tablet. i am also lactose intolerant, so i know how it is. good luck.

** oops, just saw your "so what happened" right after I responded to the original question. I'm glad you found out what was wrong. :) ***

Poor girl!

Are you sure she's ok with the milk? and that it was just colic and not an allergy? Some pediatricians don't care to look deeper into colic issues for the real cause, such as milk/soy allergy and reflux.

There are so many things she could be allergic to, wheat, whey, maybe there were green beans or squash in the ravioli and you didn't know? I know from looking for my own kids' allergies sometimes they throw in things you'd never even think of.

they should be able to do an allergy test, let you know exactly what she's allergic to. I would think they would do that first, then if nothing comes up, look into any digestive probs since they run in the family.

As for the table foods, have you tried like taking the banana and blending it up to almost the consistency of baby food? Then each time you give it to her, make it a little more chunky?

Kids are so confusing these days with all of their allergies, on top of normal "You expect me to eat THAT?" stuff LOL

good luck!

I'd say your best bet was taking her to the doctor ASAP. Skip all table foods and give her things that don't bother her until she can be properly evaluated by a medical professional. Good luck!

I would have her examined by a chiropractor. There could have been undetected problems. Medical doctors are not always aware of these problems. Check out this website and find someone close. www.icpa4kids.org

I would definately make an appointment right away with her pediatrician. It could be gas, it could be an allergy, or it could be a GI problem. I wouldn't try to figure it out on your own. That's why we have doctors. The quicker you get her in to see a doc, the quicker she'll be comfortable. You want to make sure it's not a GI prob, so that she is not having malabsorbtion of her food and not growing properly. My husband has Chron's. My daugher at about 15 months old started "grunting or groaning". She would hang on her crib or on furniture and look like her tummy hurt her. She wasn't really colicky but we did have to have her on Soy formula because she got to gassy with other formula. She never really seemed that bad, but at about two 1/2 we said, okay, time to tell the pediatrician that we wanted a referal to a pediatric gastroentroenologist (spelling?). Anyways, we didn't do this sooner, because there would be months that would go by with no grunting. The Ped said it could be behavioral - maybe she was just nervous and it made her feel calm... Anyways, she hardly does this anymor and she's now 3 1/2 - I think the pediatrician was right- he said if it was just behavioral, she'd grow out of it by kindergarten. Anyways, he's a great doc, he also said, it's good to follow your gut and if you think there's something wrong, see a doc and express your concerns. The Gastro that we went to see drew blood, she didn't have anything wrong - no mal absorbtion of food, her growth chart was phenominal, there was no blood in the stool sample (they will check for blood as one way to rule out chron's), and they had me keep a log of when she had tummy probs and when she pooped. This gastro was a little off - he said, oh, it sounds like she's grunting like this because she's trying to hold it in - maybe she's constipated. I told him she goes number 1 every day and he asked how sure i was about this and he had me start her on a "very mild" laxitive. Needless to say, she wasn't constipated because she got diahrea instantly so I stopped that laxitive instantly. To make a long story short, she was still doing the grunting/moaning thing a bit and I called back and said, okay, what is there that you can do that's non invasive. They did an ultrasound to look at her intestines, kidneys, ect. Everything came out normal. As time as gone on, she hardly does this anymore. She was such a good sport about the doc visits, probably since she came with me early on to my doctor visits when I was pregnant with her little bro (they are 15 months apart). I just wanted to email you this story since, my husband also has Chron's and my daughter also has had tummy issues. I think, overall, that I would take her in as soon as possible and mention that you have Chron's and you want to rule out Chron's for her. She could just have IBS, or just an allergy to wheat or gluten. Or, in my daughter's case, she might just get gassy and be a little more irritable than normal and grow out of it. I think, as my daughter is growing, her tummy is maturing and she'll be just fine. Good luck to you, I'm sure you'll figure it out and help to make your sweet little baby more comfortable! :)

Hi. I have a lovely baby boy. I was giving him gerber food and it made him very sick. He had a hard time passing stool. I give him pear juice to help him soften his stool. I also steam the vegetables and mash them myself. He's fine with that. He's no longer screaming in agony. Maybe there is something in the graduates food that upsets your babies stomach. Just a thought hope it works out and that she is better soon.
