Hi! My daughter has a visit with the specialist this month. I was informed that she may need braces to assist her 2nd front tooth to come through as it's "blocked". That's the term they used actually. Her other front tooth is fully out. The imprint of her 2nd frontal can be seen through her gum but it's not budging.

Any of you Ladies have experience w this pertaining to your little ones?

So What Happened?

B - Gamma and Tadpole - Thank you. I appreciate the details you shared. I now have better understanding.

She's in absolutely no pain. Yay!

I hope that they simply make an opening honestly. Removing teeth and all that doesnt sound too good imo. I can see her tears falling now. We'll see though. She's so excited about the new teeth she already has so I can't imagine when the rest peak through :)

It sounds like there's little or no room in her jaw for the tooth to emerge.
What an orthodontist does about this is to use an expander to make the jaws bigger - and then the tooth can emerge and line up with the others.

Back when I had braces - in the 70's - there were no expanders - and what they did was pull adult teeth that didn't fit and align the remaining teeth.
Besides wisdom teeth (4) - my bicuspids (another 4) were also pulled.
I was in braces 7 YEARS- 5th grade through 11th grade - and I so hated it and it was so painful!

For our son - he had the expanders - and he only had 3 years - 4th through 6th.
He didn't have to have any teeth pulled and they are beautiful and straight.
The expanders are wonderful things, using them is much less painful and I only wish they were around when I could have used them.

sounds like they are going to use braces to make the gap wide enough for the tooth to emerge on its own, visit the specialist and see what they say. it is probably not going to be a big deal.just braces, possibly an expander and she will have a perfect straight smile

No, they didn't put a brace on a tooth that was still inside the gum. The doc put kiddo to sleep with general anesthesia and snipped an opening over the end of the tooth. It was half way down in a week. If the tooth isn't ready to come down though why mess with it? Is it inflamed and hurting?

My daughter had a tooth in the roof of her mouth. She had oral surgery. What they did was put a chain on braces n tooth. It would be tightened and eventually tooth ended up where it was supposed to. It was only sore the day the day it was tightened. Sounds barbaric I know, but it worked. Good luck.

I had this when I was a kid. Neither of my eye teeth could come through without help.
I had to wear headgear to spread my teeth for about a year, but once I did that, all good.

My son had a front tooth that would not come down. We waited two years. Ended up making a callus from eating and then it really would not come out. They cut a place at the end of the tooth and "then a little more " so a brace bracket could be glued on it and then we went to the orhodontist a (few days later ) and then put braces on him. Two things I regret. The " little more"that was taken off the tooth for the bracket ended up receding too high on the front tooth, now the tooth is too exposed. Probably should have not have done the little extra cutting and waited for the first opening to receed for 2-3 weeks on its own. The second thing is the Ortho we went to (highly recommended) automatically just squeezed the front to teeth together, now it is not balanced and I need to go back in addition to that the tooth is also a tiny bit short and needs to come down a little more. Working on it !
