I ice up the area before the shot, and do the heating pad afterwards. Good luck!
I started my shots today and had myself so worked up about how much it was going to hurt that I didn't realize she had given me the shot until she said, "done." Well, that wasn't so bad...until I got back to the office and darn it if the area isn't burning and irritated. Okay, one down, many more to go. While they will switch sides week to week, what did you do to ease the pain afterwards?

I sit on a heating pad for a few minutes so the oil moves around and does not just sit in one spot. I have been doing them for almost a week and dont have a problem. ( I have also done them in the past and this has worked for me). Also make sure your butt muscle is very relaxed. I always stand and lean against something with little to no pressure on the side that is getting the shot( I stand with most pressure on opposite foot and on tip toe of other)
Good Luck
I had to have them and found numbing the area with an ice cube before the shot helped---and (creepy as it sounds) massaging the area after helped too.
I had the same fear and then VOILA felt nothing during the shot and then OUCHIE afterwards.
Same advice . . .numb your rear before the shot. And YES! Switch sides each week. The other thing is to rub that site after each shot to break up all of that oil or else you will have a painful knot.
As a warning, the site also might get really itchy too.
And a side note, I offer support for moms who are "pregnant after preemie" I have a 4 year old former 29 weeker and my 2nd full term with the help of 17p shots . . .if you ever want to talk!
