Ouch! I Need Some Good Advice!

Okay, so this may be a weird question to ask, but I will give it a go. I got out of the bath about 5 minutes ago and had just shaved my legs. I counted about 75 cuts on one leg and about 30 on the other. Yeah, it hurts. This is not an unsual occurance either! I was just wondering if anyone has some good and easy hair removal advice for me. I usually take a bath (not too hot or cold) and I use hair conditioner to shave with b/c it has worked the best for me (wich means fewer cuts). Today I used the same razor for the second time. It says that the razor is for sensitive skin and has aloe in it. I don't push too hard or too soft. I have darker hair, so It doesn't really do much for me to shave "with" the hair. I just don't know what to do anymore! It is so frustrating to shave. I can't say they look good after they are shaved b/c I get little tiny scabs from the cuts and I am very uncomfortable. But if I don't shave, then there is the obvious problem of hair! I do water aerobics twice a week too, so I really would like some solution! Please let me know what has worked for you. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

Hi H.,
I also have REALLY dark hair and it grows quick... I hate shaving in the shower so I do it in the tub. I used to get lots of cuts then I tried a MANS razor..LOL I use the gillete mach it has five blades for men... I soak in a nice hot bath and at the end I use baby oil or a heavy lotion to shave with. I don't get nicks or cuts anymore.. Shaving cream for me didn't work at all either.

I didn't read the other responses so i don't know if this helps but i also have very dark hair that grows back really fast. And i have sensitive skin so i can get the worst razor rash on my legs. What i have found out is if i use really warm water, wait until the end of my shower (so my legs are good and wet) use a good razor and this is the key shave everyday to every other day i don't get razor rash anymore. I know that might sound weird that if you shave more often it will get better but it does. I think it's because i don't let my hair get very long. Anyways it really has made a difference so if you go days between shaves just try doing it everyday for a week or so and see what happens.

i have noticed that if my legs get goose pimples at all while i am shaving i have the same problem and its awful to put lotion on afterwards!! my sister in law just got laser hair removal on her legs and underarms and its soo cool!! i believe that it was under $1000 for both. i know that can be alot of money and it takes a few months for the whole process, but if your looking for a more permanent solution this may be an option for you. i know im looking into it. also im into the idea of less up keep. shaving and a crying child = 1 shaved leg and 1 not shaved leg..... lol

I know a couple of people have suggested Nair. I just wanted to suggest that if you decide to try a hair removal cream, make sure that you test one small spot first to see how your skin will react. Wait 24 hours and if it seems okay, use it on the rest of your legs. I used Nair once and the chemicals gave me a rash so I wanted to warn you! I hope it works for you though!

If the hair removal creams don't work, you could consider using an epilator (it works like tweezers and pulls the hair out by the roots). After the first couple of weeks you will not have to use it as much, as the hair doesn't grow back nearly as fast or as dense. Also, it isn't nearly as painful as it sounds once you get used to it, lol. You could also try an electric razor. They don't shave as close, but I would think you wouldn't get cut as much either.

Best wishes,

A.

I've used Nair a ton and had great success. I use the sensitive skin formula. It's got to be better than what you're living with now! Meanwhile, save for laser!

Yeah, try a non shaving cream. It works well and also last longer than shaving anyway.

Have you tried any hair removal creams like Veet or Nair? Also, try waxing. I recommend having it professionally done. I have a co-worker who says that sugar waxing is the best and hair stays gone longer and grows back finer.

Hi H.
I have been told that if you wax your legs it takes longer for hair to grow back

Remember that weird contraption they invented in the 80's that ripped you leg hair out from the root? I think it was called the "Epilady". You could torture yourself with that for a while, and see if it helps any...better yet, if you have some savings, you could always spring for laser hair removal. It takes three or four sessions, but it's permanent! I have been wanting to do this, but can't afford it. I know someone who had it done and was VERY happy with the result. THey say it works better on people with dark hair.

Try using those non shaving hair removal creams. Like Nair. I personally don't like them but I know a lot of people that use them and have success. I would maybe consider spending some more money on quality disposables even. I cannot say I have that hard of a time, I use a razor on my legs three or four different times and just do it in the shower with shaving gel or something.

Perhaps warmer water, there are some great suggestions here.

Otherwise skip shaving and wear a wetsuit!

I have discovered for myself that sometimes more expensive razors ARE better. Somehow the cheap-ie ones don't work for my like they did when I was younger. Maybe you just need to find a higher quality one and experiment with different creams. I feel you pain.

I don't have the exact same problem as you, however i get little bumps quite often. I've tried holding out long enough to wax, but I can't stand it when the hair gets that long! Nair has always made me break out, and even the scented ones smell terriable. I've tried veet a few times and it seemed to work much better! It still smelled though. Maybe try something like that? I will say that the hair grew back slower with veet. Also, if its affordable, check into laser hair removal like someone else suggested. I've always wanted that and might look into it someday. Good luck!
