Ovulation Prediction

We want to TTC in August. We REALLY want a boy (hubby is last boy of his family), and while we know it's not really something you can choose, we just want to make an effort! :) (So no lectures on saying it's not going to work, please)

I've read that timing with ovulation can help increase your chance of a boy. They say to conceive the exact day of ovulation. I have NEVER tracked my ovulation before, so I don't know much about this. I know there are ovulation prediction kits. I'd like to try that since it seems easy! haha

So, if we want to conceive on my ovulation day in August, when do I start using the ovulation kit? Do I start in August near when I think I will ovulate? Or do I need to start now to establish my "pattern"?

Also, I currently have the Mirena IUD. If I need to start with the ovulation kit now, will the Mirena affect it & make the process useless? We also need to figure out when we want to get my appointment to have the Mirena removed. I know you are supposed to be able to conceive right after having it removed, but we really want to conceive in August! :)

Thanks for any advice! :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Yes, I do know that the male sperm is what determines the sex of the baby. But I do also know that the male & female sperm have different characteristics. Thank you.

Thanks for all of the responses! I tried to call my doctor to make an appointment to talk about what I need to do - including if I need to have the Mirena out at this appointment. But they had closed an hour before I called! Oops! :( I'll call Monday!

I'm also going to ask her about timing with ovulation, and pH. Maybe she can give me some answers & what I can do!

When I got the Mirena removed, the following week I got this horrendous week of bleeding and I had no idea if it was a period or not. The Dr said it wasn't, just that it was hormone let down. Anyway, I conceived right away and had no idea when the due date would be because I hadn't had a real period. The dr was amazed that I conceived so quickly, he said it should have taken a month. Anyway, I miscarried. From what I have read, it is really a good idea to wait to conceive until after you have a true period after the Mirena removal. As for conceiving the boy, I can only give you my personal experience which probably doesn't match up with others. When conceiving my son, sex was probably day 1 of the ovulation timeframe, and it was missionary style (sorry if TMI, but position is important). For my daughters, it was more like day 3 of the window, and the position was not missionary.

Good luck!

An ovulation predictor only tells you, if you are fertile. You need to learn your body's ques.
Not to be a downer, but you are really setting yourself up for disappointment. The likelihood of conceiving on the exact month you'd like to, is low. tomorrow, it is June. You have 2 months, and your Mirena is still in. Have you been on birth control before? (By that, I mean right before you were trying to get pregnant.) It can take a body a while to re-adjust, after stopping birth control. Many woman get secondary fertility problems, even if they conceived easily the first time. Then, factor in your age, any health problems, any health problems your husband might have, stress levels, hormone problems, etc. Not to mention, if you do all the things perfectly recommended, you chance of getting a boy is probably only elevated a percentage of a percent, to 1%...in reality. I'm not saying you CAN'T influence, but that your influence is very, very tiny. I'm seriously not trying to be mean, I just have a friend who went through this. She wanted to conceive a girl in February. Instead, she conceived a boy in April. She was pretty devastated, but she really set herself up for it.

You do not need an ovulation kit. You need to start paying attention to your body. An ovulation kit, I believe, tells you when you are fertile so if you rely on an ovulation kit you may conceive on a "girl" day.
I recommend you buy a book or look up "The Billings Method". This method worked twice for me BTW. If you pay attention to the mucus secretions of your body and learn how long it last you can tell exactly when you are fertile and then plan on having sex the last day of your fertile period to increase your chances of having a boy. Best of luck!

well the Mirena IUD is a birth control. you'll have to get it removed (if you haven't already) and after the removal your body will have to start ovulating again you can then track your ovulation days. I would recommend looking up the Chinese gender chart. http://www.parents.com/pregnancy/my-baby/gender-predictio... it might enhance your chances of getting your boy!! GOOD LUCK!

I think it will be to your benefit to start now to establish your pattern. Also, take note of your cervical mucous; it is a wonderful natural indicator of your degree of fertility. HTH. Best wishes!

I heard that you have a higher chance for a boy if you have sex on the day you ovulate. Something about the girls live longer and may be "waiting" for the egg. Either way you have a 50/50 chance. I wanted to advise you to not get your heart set on conceiving in August. You have 20% chance of getting pregnant every month even if you time everything just right. A good resource is fertilityfriend.com If you're checking cervical mucous, it's egg white consistency when you're ovulating. Good luck!

i agree with CW i missed carried after getting PG right away after my IUD then it took 7 months once i had the other removed.. enough debbie downer stuff...

the best way to check ovulation is of course you can do it..or you can buy cheap test from amazon and your not spending a lot to check, i was told you still ovulate on the iud, that is the thick clear stuff... but i would wait until the first bleeding is over because its not a period is the hormones, my first real period came 42 days later..good luck!!
