Yes they are worth it. But I used the kind that are just the strips, and it was a 30 day supply instead of 5 or 7. It cost me about $22 per box, which isn't bad for that many!
Hello Moms. I'm curious if anyone has used those ovulation test kits from the store. Please tell me they're accurate because I've been relying on them lately. My husband has recently taken a job 2 hours out of the city we live in, so with his commute home only on the weekends, it's important we know exactly what time is the right time to try conceiving. If the test tells me I'm ovulating, then he makes the trip home for the night instead of staying where he is. So I just want to make sure that I can trust these things since we can't just do it everyday around "that time" to be sure we've hit the mark. My daughter turned 3 in August, and we've been hoping to get pregnant soon so the kids aren't too far apart - right now it looks like 4 years, and I'm hoping it won't be much more than that. But we'll see. It happens when it's meant to, right? Thanks Moms, I love this site!

Get a copy of the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility if you want detailed information on tracking your cycle. It may take a few months of tracking your cycle to get your pattern down. I never used the tests or formally tracked my cycle to get pregnant but I could usually tell when I ovulated by the cervical mucus. It is clear and stretchy and looks like raw egg white when you ovulate. I believe you want to have sex right before you ovulate or within the window between the day before and the day after you ovulate (a 3 day window). If I am not being clear here, try reading the book. Good luck.
Yes, they are worth it and they are pretty accurate from my experience.
I went through fertility treatments and used the kits. The key is to use them the same time every day. I was working at the time so I did them on my lunch hour. When I got the positive test, I had my insemination the next morning. I got pregnant on the first try both times!
When my twins were conceived, we used a kit for one month and were pregnant that month. I am currently expecting, and for our first month I tried a kit again, but no luck. So, I relied on the Day 12, 14, and 16 timing. My husband much preferred the kit. He felt like it was "work", and it stressed him out, where the kit was easy. We knew exactly when. It's worth a shot, and it worked for us the first time.
Hi L.,
The ovulation kits are totally worth it, especially if you have a very limited window of when your husband is at home. I would recommend going on ebay and buying them. I got a package of 80 ovulation strips and 20 pregnancy tests for about $30. They're just the strips, not the fancy applicators. All you need to do is use a plastic cup instead of peeing on the applicator. Well worth the investment, I got pregnant on our second month of trying!
Best of luck!
Absolutely worth it! They are very accurate. I have a 7 week old little baby that is our proof :) They worked for us on the first month we were trying.
Wow, everyone seems to think they are worth it...except for me. I tried using them for several months and followed the directions exactly. It never, ever showed a surge, or positive ovulation resust. I started to think that I was just off on my timing, but then started testing every monring throughout my entire cycle and still nothing. So, based on the tests, I don't ovulate, ever. But I have 2 healthy girls, and another on the way, that indicate otherwise. :)
Good luck! R.
My daughter was conceived after trying on the night the test said positive! I ovulate way earlier than the 12 to 14 day window so we kept missing the chance.
I say totally worth it! They worked for us on month 1 - but maybe we just got lucky? Without them my ovulation would have been a completely guess.
Yes worth it! tried it after trying to conceive on my own for 3 months and worked on the first month we used it. My dear baby will be two next April :o)
They are worth it. But buy the generic ones, because it doesn't make a difference. And pee on them AT NIGHT not in the morning, like a pregnancy test. It's different hormones and they rise at different parts of the day. I wish someone had told me that before I wasted 3 months of trying.
I also tracked my ovulation, by the book suggested below. However, we also used the ovulation strips. They either worked or we just get pregnant easily, becuase we got pregnant the first month!
