Hello all! As of two days ago I have had a very strange stabbing, shooting pain on the outside part of my right breast throughout the day. Never happened before. I went in to see my regular doc who did a manual exam. She said she didn't find anything but is sending me for a mammogram any way, just to be sure. She was being so reassuring that this was NOT breast cancer she didn't really address any other possibilities. She only said she thought the pain was coming from a rib???? Well, I don't have the shooting pain anymore but I still feel like the whole side, including my nipple, is more sensitive and even has a burning like feeling to it. VERY uncomfortable! I told her I thought it might be a minor infection or cyst and she agreed a cyst could be a possibility. So my question is, are there any more specific questions I should be asking? If any one has any input/experiences they would like to share, please do. TIA

What can I do next?

caffeine!! How much do you consume, if any?

caffeine is the culprit for 98% of my breast pain. It's a shooting, stabbing pain + + a general achiness, very similar to PMS & pregnancy.

unfortunately, I am to the point where more than 1 caffeinated drink (daily) & I hurt like heck. I also remember my gma crying because of breast pain....& yet she refused to give up her "real" coffee!

I hate, hate, hate when that stabbing pain is in closer to the center of my chest.... I always wonder if it's my heart! & I KNOW it's not. :)

Haven't dealt with what you are, but I just want to let you know that pain in breasts is quite common. I had a HUGE painful lump in my breast last April. Doc sent me in for a mammogram and they ended up just doing a sonogram. Turns out, it was just new breast tissue. It went away and was nothing.

This happened to me. It could be hormonal. I went to a breast specialist for my own peace of mind. I think I was tender on the breast wall from something physical, but I also had other things......When she examined me she found all sorts of lumps and bumps that she thought were cysts. She put me on a regimen of supplementation and told me to come for another exam just to be sure in 3 months. The thought is that the cysts should get smaller and pain less. The pain is almost gone now. I would suggest the breast specialist because she felt things my gyn did not. That's her specialty and it made me finally relax. Also, avoid or cut back on caffeine.

I have heard of this type of "shooting" pain too.
Makes me want to get my Google fingers out and get to it!
