Hi ladies,

I'll preface this by saying that I'm aware that none of you are doctors. However, I'd like to know if anyone has gone through this and what/if anything they've done about it.

This is the third month in a row that I've experienced intense pain and pressure during ovulation. It goes on for 2-3 days and feels like a severe UTI. As soon as I ovulate, it disappears and I'll get a whole two days until I start PMS-ing.

So I've been suffering with this all weekend. I hoped I would ovulate overnight, but no...still have the pain and pressure this morning. I want to rip my hair out!

I've struggled with this off an on over the years, but never to this degree. In the past, going on the pill would eliminate this problem. But unfortunately, it's not an option now as I was diagnosed with high blood pressure in May and had to stop taking the pill.

I can't imagine having to go through this every month indefinitely!

ETA: And to make matters worse, I can't take Ibuprofen because of the interaction with my high blood pressure meds.

What can I do next?

I had this every month, but it was due to a cyst on my ovaries, which was removed when I was about 28. Pain was gone after that.

I'm 52, and have this problem since I was 14. It's the pits. Every OB doctor I've seen always checks for ovarian cysts, of which I've had a few. Some women just suffer this way. They say it's worse in our 30's, but mine is knee-dropping-to-the-floor bad, still. :(

Constipation and dehydration can make the symptoms worse, so watch those two culprits carefully.

Otherwise, I have to use Alleve/Motrin type products early on. If I don't catch the pain early, it's as if it's almost too late. If I medicate early, then I don't need Motrin the 2nd or 3rd day. Only the first day.

HTH!

Definitely get checked for ovarian cysts.
You should also talk to your doctor about birth control options for women with high blood pressure. Depending on your specific condition a progestin only pill or depo provera (the shot) may be an option.
It may also be an option to put you on an on/off regimen of these birth control methods, if they are not used for contraception. This is particularly helpful if your pain stems from ovarian cysts. In this case you would only take a progestin pill for a few cycles until the cyst resolves. This is generally considered safe for most women with HBP who are well monitored - but again is something you need to talk about with your physician.
Good luck.

I have this same problem, every month. It feels like this intense pressure, almost like a ball of fire with pressure. It hurts to sit, or get up and down. I've been dealing with this for years. But it usually lasts for a day and when I wake up the next day, it's gone. I'm sorry!

I am sorry you are having this. I started getting painful ovulation after the birth of my 1st daughter, which made getting pregnant with my 2nd really easy, lol. For me, some months are worse than others and for some reason it's always on my right side. I have had a couple of cysts in the past, but I think they are independent from the pain. It's definitely a common issue out there, but you should probably check in with your OB/GYN, maybe they have ideas for you and how to safely alleviate your pain with your HBP.Best of luck to you.

It's called middleschmurtz. I know..... it's funny.

It's one of the decisions that made me have my Dr remove my ovaries when she did my hysterectomy.

I also have had ovarian cysts most of my life. AND when they did the hysterectomy I had somthing called a chocolate endometrium, which is a specific type of cyst on one of my ovaries.

Good luck.

Sounds like PCOS and u just need metformin. Also ask about endometriosis. Do u have insulin resistance or hyper insulin anemia? Yes constipation and dehydration lead to the pain. So fluid up even with Gatorade and sugar can make it Worse. Eat a diabetic diet.
