Painful Red Bumps - 23 Weeks, First Pregnancy

I am 23 weeks pregnant with my first child and I noticed tonight that I have several painful red bumps on my skin. One is on the inside of my right arm and then I also have three more down on the right side of my bikini area where I have not recently shaved, so I know it's not razor burn. Could this be pregnancy related and if so, should I be worried?

ETA: It is not itchy, just painful.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Dr diagnosed a staph infection on my skin. Thank goodness it happened the same week of prenatal appointment, so I didn't have to wait much longer. The bump on my arm is extremely swollen and painful. She prescribed 2 strong anit-biotics and told me to take pro-biotics in between doses. Hoping it works cause it is causing my arm the throb all the time.

I developed folliculitis when pregnant (10 years ago). My OB said it's one of the many unsung "joys" :P common to pregnancy.

In general they're EITHER

1) hormone related (some women get acne, others get folliculitis, whee).

-or-

2) weight related (as the skin stretches, the hairs get lost trying to exit... and the follicules get irritated, then infected). Most commonly found along bikini line, jaw line, and armpits.

No idea if this is what you've got... but it's what I had (and still have on my bikini line. since my skin is still stretched out :P)

I would agree with the diagnosis on pups. It isn't anything serious but just annoying. My friend had it. Also, it is really prevelant with pregnant women in the 2nd trimster and who are pregnant with boys. Is it itchy?

If it begins to itch what comes to mind is the PUPPS rash. I got it on my fourth pregnancy at 35 or so weeks. It can come as early as 20 weeks. Just a reaction between baby and mom. There is no cure for it but to have the baby. There are very few ways to minimise the symptoms. If this is it just google and get more info.
Hope all is well!

I doubt that it's pregnancy related. Are they itchy at all? They could be hives or insect bites. If you don't have a fever, you don't need to be worried. In my 70 years of life I've had many red bumps at different times and they've never been serious.

It might be PUPP's, talk to your doc. My friends DIL had it her whole second pregnancy. Hopefully it's not though....
