Panties Only Potty Training.

How long does it typically take to train a toddler (my daughter is turning 2 on Jan. 2nd) to potty using ONLY panties? No diapers, no pull ups. We started training her last Thursday, and today (Monday) she went to the potty by herself without telling me.

A little background - my daughter and I are profoundly deaf, and I make sure that she watches me go, and she's in the bathroom with me, I make sure everything's visual for her - because it seems like half the suggestions out there are for hearing children! >.<

She's getting *tons* of praise, and very little rewards.

Edited to add: She's been showing signs of readiness for quite some time, has had her own potty since about 7 mos. and plays on it. She's comfy with it. So I'm just wondering the general time range for how fast panties-only training usually takes. Thanks to everyone who's posted so far! :)
Thanks!

I will agree with the Mom below- it's really more about when she is ready- physically and emotionally. If she wants to go and her body is ready then just continue to do just what you are but if she is not ready it will be very frustrating for both of you.

I didn't use pull ups while I was training. I would put a pull up or diaper on at night, but during the day because my daughter was in a toddler bed and the mattress was easy to clean we didn't use anything during the day. Being a SAHM helped that alot. I have found that if they have accidents in their panties they pick up on the whole potty thing sooner.... Good luck!

My son potty trained easily in about a week. We did the the 3 day method only I put a diaper on him at nap and bed time it took about a week and only 2 accidents :) I actually think that for kids regardless of how their hearing is that potty training has a lot do with visual. They need to see you go.
From the sounds of it she is doing great and will have the hang of it in no time. Just make sure you keep up with it and remind her if she hasn't gone for awhile.

Unless you want to continuously follow her around cleaning up little spills and dealing with smell let her wear pull ups until she stays dry all day several days or weeks in a row. That's what most child care centers do. They don't want to have to follow around with disinfectant cleaning up pee and pooh.

Just expect a lot of "accidents." 2 year olds get easily distracted. They also like to see how long they can hold it, so, she may be done quickly (night and day potty trained) but still have accidents on the way to the toilet till she is much older. You may need to occasionally "remind her" if she is too "busy."

I started training my daughter at 18 months --cloth trainers. By 21 months, she night trained. She turns 3 in March, and I've considered her trained for a long time, but just this morning she peed all over the bathroom floor.

I put my son in undies and he was trained in 3 days (at 24 months), but had been in pullups and using they potty some on his own from 18 months.

My daughter had her own potty starting at 18 months. There was never any pressure for her to use it. One week (exactly)after her 2nd b-day she told me she wanted to use her potty. And she did. That day we went out and got her "big girl panties" and she never wore a diaper again. She does still (she's 3) wear pullups at night but is dry 99% of the time in the AM. The only reason I still put her in them is that I can't always get to the laundrymat in case of several accidents in a row. So, I say "Go For It!". Good Luck and Happy Holidays!

If your child is not ready to potty 'train'... it can take a long time.

You can use a potty chair, and put it nearby her wherever she is. That is what I did with my kids.
ALSO, they need to have the biological development, to know their body's cues....

BUT bear in mind, that even potty trained kids, WILL have accidents. It is childhood. No child, will be 100% perfect about it, all the time.
AND, night-time dryness is not something that is attained, BIOLOGICALLY until even 7 years old. Day time and night time/nap time pottying... are separate different things, and time-lines.

my daughter (26 months) trained in 3 days.. she had 1 accident per day for 3 days but then I could tell that she "got it" and then she always made it to the potty. I did take her to the potty every hour for a couple of weeks, then every 1.5 horus...

my son (34 months) trained in 3 days.. he had many many accidents for 3 days but then he got it.. I was so busy with 2 kids I never remebered to take him potty but he made it.. he struggled with pooping on the potty.. (he was scared)

my daughter is still wet every night (pullups) my son is dry 99% of the nights..

being dry all day does not mean they will be dry at night..

I didn't use pull ups with either of my kids. We used the thick white cotton training pants. It really only took a week for my daughter too. If they are already showing signs and you get them potty trained before 2, kids can learn potty skills rather quickly!!

I also never went back to diapers with my kids ... even if we were on vacation or in the car or whatever. I played up the "big kids wear big kid underwear" and so they didn't want to go back into baby diapers. LOL ... They considered it like an insult whenever it was suggested to them by their dad's mom.

Set a timer (maybe a watch or phone with a vibration feature) to remind her to go try to go potty every so often. We did it every 1/2 hour and then spaced it to every hour then every 1 1/4 hr, etc until they got the hang of remembering to go. Then, when they were playing i'd have to remind them to go try to go potty just in case ... hahaha. With my daughter we ran around with sundresses and the thick panties while she was training so it would be quick for her to lift her dress and go ... for my son, it was just a t-shirt and the undies for the same reason.

Kudos mom!!!!

Honestly I never did much of anything. We talked about it and she watched me or would try on the potty but when
she turned 3 she was just ready. Enough where she was dry all the time so off came the pullups. She is 3 and a half and wakes up dry and will get up in the middle of the night to go so she wears panties to bed. My 4 1/2 year old niece trained earlier..,around 2 but still wets at night. Go with the flow is my advice. When they are ready it's easy.
