Is the only thing that people do is the white elephant exchange ?
What more can we do at a work party then that game. Or how do we stir it up
to be different ?

What can I do next?

there is a fun game where a bunch of funny questions are written on a piece of paper...examples include, What is something that you would never say to your grandma?, Or, Things that you would never want your neighbor to see you doing in the backyard.
You would ask the whole group one question at a time and then everyone would write their answers on a piece of paper, fold it up and put it in a bowl.
The only person who wouldnt put an answer in the bowl would be the person asking the question because they get to guess who wrote all of the other answers. So they would take an answer out of the bowl and guess who said it and if they get it right then they get a point. they continue guessing until all of the answers have been read and guessed.
The next question can be asked by another person in the circle and the game stays fair because everyone gets a chance to collect points, answer questions, and guess...i hope that makes sense. it is super funny to hear what people are thinking.

My husband just played this game at work at a store meeting and he said it was a lot of fun. It is called Hunter, Bear, Karate. Kind of like rock, paper, scissors- but a little louder. Anyway, you have music on and when the music stops you have to face each other as either a hunter(both hands as a gun and yell "bang!bang!") or bear(hands up like claws and roar) or karate(hands flat, foot up- karate style and yell"whaaaah") Hunter beats bear- bear beats karate, and karate beats hunter. You do this with everyone in pairs and who ever loses sits out until you just have one person left.
We played it with our kids all weekend long- it is a ton of fun! Not really Christmasy- but a fun party game!

I heard a good one the other day...it's actually something they do within their family. I thought it was great. They play BINGO. Whoever wins then gets to pop a balloon which has a number in it (or you could draw the number out of a bowl or hat). They have to get the present w/the corresponding present w/that number on it. The only thing is everyone would have to win BINGO to get a present. So, maybe you could do some version of that game.
Also, instead of making it-"anything goes" w/White Elephant (which is sometimes Funny and sometimes Lame...)-you could give it a theme-like everyone has to bring a DVD or CD-gently used from Home or no more than $5 if you buy it. You could also say the gift has to be Red, Green or White or something fun to add some pizazz.
Have Fun...I'm sure there are some good ideas online too.

My husband and I just organized a game for his division, called Hit or Miss.

I researched all the top hits from the last several decades...50's, 60's, 70's, etc. Printed up cards that say Hit one side, Miss on the other. Then we played songs and you would hold your sign up voting if you thought it was a No. 1 hit or not. It was surprising to see who knew the music hits. A lot fun for everyone. But a little labor intensive putting all the music on a CD. Then we had small prizes for the winners. We played several rounds and most wanted to keep playing.

And, I always like to print up holiday jokes, cut and fold and have people tell them to the group throughout the party. You can google holiday jokes, just cut and paste, print and cut, fold and place into any holiday jar/stocking, etc.

Planning and preparing and choosing will be the most time consuming. Then it's all good from there.
