I am desperately looking for a fun place to have my husband's surprise 40th birthday party! EEK! It is coming up in November and I am in a panic! I thought I was going to have it at a friend's house but plans fell through so now I am scrambling! His friend is going to sing and play guitar and I want the atmosphere to be nice but relaxed. I wanted Bill Bates Ranch but it was already booked. Any great ideas in the North Dallas area? Thanks a bunch! :)

What can I do next?

If he's into sports, how about a sports bar? The bigger ones sometimes
have a room off to the side.

His favorite restaurant. One with a side room you can reserve is best.

If you want it to be totally relaxed AND quiet, reserve a community center at your nearest park. You can have his friend sing, cater in food from his favorite restaurant. You can, also, rent some of those old fashioned video games like pin ball, pac man etc to have delivered for the night. Place them in a corner of the room. Decorate the hall in a way that transforms it to his favorite "place" to spend time. Whether that be a "man cave" complete w/sofas you borrow/bring from home/rent placed around the room, a few inexpensive throw rugs (you can find some some at Ross type of stores for $40) etc.

Happy Birthday to your hubby! :)

Top Golf in Allen is a HUGELY fun place. We have been to parties there as well as hosted parties there. They also have entertainment while you are playing golf. We love that place.

You might try Southfork Ranch... I am off Bethany/75 in Allen and we're probable less than 15 minutes from SF. I know they have a lot of events.. We had a cheer banquet there a couple years ago and Plano East always has their prom and homecoming there.

I've not been to Strikz but I've heard it is a fun place to go. It is the bowling place in Fairview.

Fairview Farms located on 75/Parker (by Joe's Crab Shack) has areas you can rent for parties too.

Have fun

Good luck.

Is Bill Bates Ranch a restaurant?
I'm not in your area but I know a lot of restaurants have private party rooms, I would do a google search or call around.
I also had a surprise party for my hub's 40th. I rented a room at the community center and used a caterer. It was pretty reasonable and really fun. My other option was a room at a public golf course clubhouse. I liked that location even better but it was further away, which is why we did it at the community center.
Good luck and HAVE FUN!

Our local bowling alley has a private room for parties. What I like about that room is that it blocks out the sounds of the bowling.

I'm not from your area but there are some common places that you should give a look into. Places such as your local museums (one of ours has a dining hall that can be rented for parties), the local library (ours is wonderful for parties), another local spot is the YMCA. Also local restaurantes, hotels, lodges, church's (fellowship halls) and hotels all have spaces you could rent for your party with various limitations and what you can or can't do.

The last interesting place to possibly party that I can think of is your local conference center or concert hall, ours here have small intimate rooms for private parties and are surprisingly reasonable in price.

There is a nice place in McKinney named StoneBridge Ranch Country club. There are a few places in the north Dallas area, but it really depends on what you are wanting or have in mind for his party. The Top Golf is a good idea as well. I have been there on a few team outings. Also, if you need a planner I do that too. Otherwise, good luck! I'm sure you will think of something great.
