Help! We are trying to get passport for our 5 year old and need to have it in 4 weeks. I know that we can't guarantee the timing through the USPS, so we are researching passport expiditing companies. Has anyone ever used one? If so (and you liked it) would you please let me know the company's name?!? We have looked at Universal Passport & Visa and AA Passport.
Thank you so much for any help/info you can provide.

What can I do next?

American Passport & Visa Services in Dallas. Their phone number is ###-###-####...I just got mine renewed and had it back in less than a week. They were wonderful and not too expensive.

We had one of our youth group kids that needed a passport for our trip and he and his family went to Houston and got one that day. It was a first time passport (not a renewal). They had to show the urgent need with an itinerary (trip to Canada for mission work) but they walked out with his passport that day.

Kids tend to get processed a bit faster I have found. Maybe because once they confirm the person is the child there is not much else to check on a lil person... good luck!

I just got mine in for my two boys ages 2 and 5 yesterday. They told me 4 weeks and that's how long it took. Sorry that I'm not much help but I thought I'd let you know. I would think that you could pay the extra 60 dollars through the post office and get it in the time you need it.
Best Regards,
C.

If it is critical, I suggest you do the walk-through in Houston. However, as someone else has said, we got my preschool-aged daughter's passport back in 2 weeks, after we were told to expect at least 4 weeks. That was through the USPS. I know with my teenaged nephew, his passport took longer, and it was getting critical, and my SIL made several frantic calls stressing the departure date. The passport agency actually had the USPS hand-deliver his passport to him the morning they had to leave. Yes, it was a very stressful wait, but they really do try to accommodate you if they know when you absolutely have to have it.

Hi I may not be totally correct here but I thought that if you went in person to Houston which has the main passport processing center for texas, you can apply in person and get the passport within 24 hours. This was what two friends of mine did for thier kids as recently as 3 months back...they were leaving to go overseas in a week when they realized that their son's passport was expired. It took a trip down to houston and 24 hours later they left with a new passport. Now I realize that this family's child already had a passport so it was a renewal so maybe thats why it was so fast. In your case if it is a new passport for your child it may take longer but I would definitely check out whether driving to houston to apply in person woudl speed it up or not. It does cost more but it may be worth it if you are paying someone to expedite it for you anyway. I was led to believe that if you apply in person in Houston for a passport the turn around is very much faster. My son's passport was renewed in dallas and they fedexed it back to us in 10 days....signature required and it was faster than expected. Good luck.

Hi, S.,
There is a Passport Office in Plano on E. Park in the complex with all the government offices. I got my passport there last summer and they were very helpful. As someone else has said, you can pay an extra fee to get it expedited and get it back within 2-3 weeks. Mine was processed in less than a month even though I didn't pay the extra fee.
Better to pay the extra fee rather than go to all the trouble of travelling to Houston.
Good luck!

I'm not sure about these companies or what they charge. You might talk to a reputable travel agent's office to see what they say.

I went down to Houston (nearest passport office) a couple of years ago to do this when we decided at the last minute to go out of the country with my son. You'll need to take your airplane ticket or reservation information and show it to them in order to use the same day service.

If you already have your photos and application complete (photos from USPS and application at your local county clerk's office). Then you can overnight it to Houston and include and overnight envelope for them to send it back and you should have it within two weeks. I did this in 1992 to get to Taiwan, so please call Houston to verify they will still do it this way.

I know a neighbor that just took the paperwork down to HOUSTON and did it in person. It was accomplished same-day. It was a renewal and not a new one, so don't know if that makes a difference.

You can get a passport now in as little as 4 weeks.
My family just got theirs all within 4 weeks.
But you can also pay extra to have it expedited and get it faster. I did that a few years ago and received the passport within 2 weeks.

We went through USPS. We were not in a hurry. We were told 4-6 weeks nut they were in our hands within 2 weeks.

There is a place in Plano that expedites the process. I think the location is on Park/75 area. Hubby went there and it worked well.

Good luck
