Hi S.,
If you're near Northbrook, I'd highly recommend Lilo Schuster. She's a chiropractor with lots of experience with pregnancy, delivery and babies. She also has a very soothing presence. Her number is 1-###-###-####.
Good Luck! C.
I'm about 5 days past my due date (first time mom to be!) in the Northern Suburbs. Does anyone have any suggestions or referrals to natural practicioners (acupuncture, chiropractic) for how to help move labor along naturally? I'm pretty sure my body/baby will come through when its ready but I thought I'd ask to see if I'm missing anything. Thanks!
thanks to everyone for their advice and encouragement. . . just wanted to let everyone know that after 2 weeks 1 day post due date, we now have a beautiful baby boy (born aug 10)! (none of the "natural inducers" worked for me, so ultimately Pitocin was administered but that was pretty slow as well - i guess our little guy just didn't want to come out but he's here now and we're all good and that's all that matters. . . . thanks again, S.

Most first timers are 1-2 weeks late. Some people say to eat spicy food or go for a walk........a woman we know swears by eggplant parmasan.........Good Luck!
Have you tried nipple stimulation or eating pineapple (so I have heard about that one). Goodl luck.
Doctors can strip your membranes and I think that often helps. I was 8 days late. My doctor told me to walk and have sex (your husband will be happy). I have also read about the nipple stimulation. There is also a spot on your ankle that if rubbed can bring on contractions. Maybe go get a pedicure. But I was told once that the nail technicians aren't allowed to rub in that area if you are pregnant but maybe they will show you where it is. Good Luck. Pray for rain because the drop in barometric pressure helps too.
Hi! I read everyone else's responses so far. All great stuff to try. Also heard Lilo Shuster is good. I was 2 weeks past my due date before my midwife stripped my membranes, which really put things in motion. But, like someone said, it is so normal to be a week or two late the first time. Mentally it can be a real challenge(I kind of went into a cave the last two weeks). But, I think, if you and the baby are healthy, to wait it out a few days. You want your health practioner to make sure the amniotic fluids are what they should be. Anyway, I could go on. What I am saying is that I waited it out and had a healthy, all natural birth, two weeks past the due date. Best wishes. Know other moms out there are supporting you!
Hi S.:
I went to birth classes at Birthways in Andersonville. She might have som suggestions. I would walk around a lot ( I know, probably not what you want to do now). I have also heard that spicey food and sex can get labor started but don't know the hard facts on that. I would suggest looking at alternative birthing books on Amazon. Sometimes they let you read some of the book. Or just google the topic and see what comes up.
Are you having a natural birth? I did and it was an amazing expereince but they did have to break the waters bag which helped move the labor along.
Good luck!
I am sure you will hear this one more than once, but if you feel up to it - try sex. It worked for me!
Forgive my ignorance becasue I can't remember the technical term, but my doctor did what I recall as being "separating my membrane"...it wasn't the most pleasant experience but I was overdue and went in to labor within 6 hours.
I would also give the old fashioned way a try...have sex!
Hi There! I know this must be a hard time with the heat! You are so right about your body and your baby knowing what to do -- but I know the wait drives you nuts!
During your next visit, I also suggest asking your doctor to strip your membranes. It's a little crampy feeling when your doc does it but it's over in a second and it works for lots of people.
Take care of yourself!!!
Hi S.,
I know this isn't exactly what you're asking about but I've heard that eating spicy food can help. I've known a few Moms that were late that ate at a particular Mexican restaurant in Chicago and delivered the very next morning. Good Luck and Congratulations on your first!

S. - Hope for cool weather. Once the temperature drops I bet you will go into labor. At the begging of last summer I was 5 days late in the aweful heat and when we finally got a cool day I had my daughter in a very pakced delivery room.
got a great idea worked for me and many friends.
drink red raspberry tea,you can buy it in teabag form at most grocery shops
steff let me know
Hi S.,
Reflexology might help you. I've done a course myself and my teacher talked about it. He is very good but unfortunately his practice is al the way in downers groove. There are certain pressure points on you feet that can help you go into labor. A friend of mine had it done and she went into labor that same day. Best thing is, it won't hurt if it doesn't help. I would look up any practitioner in your area and call a couple to talk to them about it.
Good luck!
