I also have PCOS..My doc has me on Glucophage 500mg Twice daily...It decreases your insulin...studies have shown that decreased the unneccessary hormones and allows you ovaries to function normally...or at least close to normal. I am overweight, but I wouldnt consider myself obese. But maybe on the charts..lol...The best thing is to lose weight. I don't know if that is an issue for you,but talk to your doctor. I am trying to get pregnant as well. I have been off BCP since July. This is my 2nd month at "trying". I wish you the best of luck!!

There is a lot to learn with PCOS and much they still don't know. I can tell you that it does put you border line type 2 diabetic. This means, it makes it easier to get pregnant if you are following a diabetic diet. My specialist said best things to eat was fruit, veggies, low fat meats/chicken/fish/seafood, diet pop (if you must drink it), skim milk (let me get away with 1%.), brown rice, sweet potatoes, whole wheat bread (have to be careful on this one some say wheat but they are really white bread with wheat enrichment). I generally did multi-grain (no problems there). Stay away from as much artificial or processed sugar as possible.

If you do end up needing actual fertility treatment, they will generally start you of on the fertility pill, then if that and the diet doesn't work, then start you on the shots. (these generally work, worked with both of my pregnancy's). However, they do run tests to make sure the tubes aren't blocked. If they are, they can generally unblock them or let you know what is needed (didn't have this issue).

If you are in the cincinnati, ohio, area, I greatly recommend, DR. Chin. He is very understanding, compassionate, knowledeable, and awesome at achieving the goal. (he does not do invitro anymore) but does all the other treatments leading up to that. If you are elsewhere, sorry, no recommendations.

If you want to know more, feel free to email me.

I was diagnosed with PCOS back in November 2002. Thankfully with minor fertility treatment I've been blessed with a healthy son (was pregnant within 5 months) now 3 years old, and was able to concieve on my own the second time. When I had my daughter I was around 300 lbs. (pregnancy weight and my weight). I'm now down to 165 and my hormones have balanced out and have started ovulating and having periods on my own since losing the weight. It's difficult to go through, but it's not horrible. Some women are very lucky and don't have to go through much to concieve, while others have to go through a bit more. Good luck, and if you want to know any more please feel free to message me. :)

Good luck!

Hi R. I too have PCOS and I had to see a fertility doctor to get pregnant. I did Chlomid on top of taking 1000mg a day of Glucaphage/Metformin. That did nothing so I had my tubes checked and they were blocked. So I had the out patient surgery to clear them out. They started me on the series of shots which were not too bad but more of a pain than anything. We tried IUI three times prior to having my tubes flushed. After the tubal flush we tried one more IUI and it took finally we got pregnant with our son. I had a wonderful pregnancy and a healthy baby. If you are in the greater Cincinnati area I highly recommend Dr. Awadalla. He has two offices one in Hyde Park and one new one in Florence KY. There is a lot unknown about PCOS but it does cause some women to gain weight and it makes it very difficult to lose weight. Most of the weight is carried around the tummy area. Since being diagnosed I put on 60 + pounds in three years. After the baby I gained 15 more and have had no success losing it. In all honesty though I don’t stick to a strict diet and that would be helpful;) I have heard after you have one child conceiving again is much easier. I will keep my fingers crossed for that to be true as Vincent is now 7 months and I'd like to start trying in a few months for a little sister or brother for him.

Hi!

I also have PCOS and could go without a cycle for months at a time. My doctor gave me a pill 12 days a month to get a regular cycle. I think it was progesterone or something. Then 5 days a month I took chlomid. I still wasn't ovulating so she gave me a shot in the hip called Profasi to make me ovulate. That worked on the first try. Best of luck!
