I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and am taking Metformin. Have any of you had success getting pregnant with this medication?
I was actually on Clomid but my sister-in-law was on Metformin and got pregnant on the 2nd attempt. She had a few more issues - thyroid etc with the PCOS and her doc wanted to try the Metformin first. If you have other questions, I can get info from her just PM me.

Yes it is possible. Many people with PCOS go on to have many children. We've had three pregnancies and two live births and I've known about my pcos since I was a teenager.
I wasn't on metformin long because I couldn't stomach it and the other form of the pill wasn't tested with pregnancy so I went off. First pregnancy used clomid, second and third didn't need it.
Taking temperture and tracking worked best for us!
I second Shelly...2 metformin babies 1000mgs. Took 2 cycles each time. I highly recommend it! Good luck!
AS a certified Pharmacy Technician and a OB/GYN clinical Lab. Specialist in United States, if you are diabetic and pregnant, you need to consult your family physician and request a 3-Hr lab test done on you called "GTT" (Glucose Tolerance Test), this checks how much your system can tolerate simple sugars. The graph when plotted would tell you exactly where you are in your system.
At the same time, most women have elevated glucose levels when they are pregnant and this goes away once the baby is born. It is called "gestational diabetis". Ask your local pharmacist the best medication for a diabetic expectant mother. let your family physician prescrbe this for you but please, have your allergies reviewed first.Endocrinologists are so advanced now that diabetis cannot stop a lady from having babies.

I have two Metformin babies. I got pregnant with my daughter after being on Met for 2 months...she is 5 and started school this year. I wasn't even on Met but about 2 days before I conceived my son...he is 3 1/2. I think for women with PCOS, Metformin is a miracle drug. Good Luck in the quest for #2.
I am currently 22 weeks pregnant with my little "Metformin miracle." I was diagnosed with PCOS last March, and was only on Metformin for two weeks before I conceived. We definitely weren't trying, and it was a total surprise. My endocrinologist didn't even mention that increased fertility was a possibility! It was my OB/GYN who clued me in when she confirmed my pregnancy. Getting pregnant so soon after my diagnosis, did cause a few problems at the beginning. I had to take progesterone to maintain the pregnancy, and I had to continue taking Metformin during my first trimester just to be safe. Now that I'm in my second trimester, everything is GREAT! I feel so much better than I did before I got pregnant just because I don't have the testosterone causing so many problems. I hope it works as well for you, and I wish you the best of luck!
My best friend got diagnosed with PCOS, started metformin, and within 3 months she was pregnant! She also completely cut sugar out of her diet.
Yes! I have PCOS. I was put on Metformin by my RE during our attempts at getting pregnant with IUI. I had 3 failed IUI months, not all in a row I always took a month off between attempts. After the last failed IUI we planned to take at least a month off and that is when I got pregnant. The only thing other than prenatals that I was taking was Metformin.

I have PCOS & I took metaformin, watched my diet (really cut back on sugar), and did yoga and/or pilates 3 days a week. My cycles normalized in only a few months and we were able to concieve dd. If you end up on Clomid, do your research well. You want to really limit the cycles you take it for due to an increased risk for cancer later (not a huge increase risk, but good to know) and because, the longer you take it, the less fertile cervical mucus you will produce. Be sure you are seeing a reproductive endo. if at all possible that will monitor any clomid cycles with ultrasound and not just hormone levels by blood draw. Good Luck & happy baby making!!!!
