To those of you with children who have peanut allergies:

Do you know of any restaurants that are safe to take your child to? We are trying to go out to dinner with friends tonight, but their daughter has a peanut allergy, so they never go out to dinner with the children, and we want the children to be able to come, also. Thanks very much!

So What Happened?

Thanks for the input, everyone! I ended up calling Olive Garden, who informed me that everything on their children's menu is safe for peanut allergies. So that's where we went, and she ordered the pizza off the children's menu and it was great! I also heard that Macaroni Grill is really good about allergies, and has menus specific to the allergy. But our Macaroni Grill burned down, so we went to Olive Garden instead! : )
Thanks again!

We've been able to take our daughter almost any place. Her allergy is more in the moderate range so it's not immediately life threatening. We just have to be diligent about what she eats. One place that we definately DO NOT go to is Logan's steakhouse. They have buckets of peanuts at every table & in the waiting area. Most times the shells are just thrown on the floor. Good luck!

I'm the one in our family with nut allergies and peanut allergies, so what I do is ask if any of the dishes are prepared with peanut oil. I ask if any dishes are prepared on the same surfaces as peanuts or with peanut oil. I let them know how severe my allergy is and make sure that they can make the accommodation of having a nut-free station and utensils and use vegetable oil instead.

I do try to call ahead if it's a place I've never been before or I'm not sure that they can accommodate.

My son is allergic to tree nuts. Pizza places are usually good. Avoid the salad bar.

My daughter is allergic to peanuts and nuts. I can tell you to absolutely not go out for Chinese food! Too many dishes have nuts and it's hard to be sure your order hasn't been contaminate from a pan or utensil from another dish.

Some restaurants are more helpful than others when it comes to food allergies. You can call around and find one that has safe kitchen procedures in place. Some restaurants actually have ingredient lists for all of their menu items and will go over it with you.

not exactly classy but chickfillet is a no no they use peanut oil. very tasty though. I might think that a smaller family owned type of resturant would be safer. hope you find something.
