I would not try it until he is after 3 or until he has an allergy test. If you want to give it to him, I'd give it to him in the parking lot outside of the Emergency Room in case he has an allergic reaction. Seems extreme, I know. When my daughter was about 21 months, she took a bite of my peanut butter sandwich and had a severe allergic reaction. No one on either side of our families has any kind of allergies so it didn't occur to me. Luckily we gave her Benadryl right away. However within 5 minutes, she started wheezing, we took her to the ER and the 10 min ride seemed like an eternity. As soon as we go to the ER, her face was all puffy and she had difficulty breathing. The gave her meds and breathing treatment. Now I have to carry the Epi pen with her where ever she goes. The rate for this kind of allergy is low but I'd would not risk it with your child. Whatever you decide, good luck and hope that your child does not have the severe allergic reaction.

Be careful. You know peanut butter has a choke factor if they eat to much. On the other hand I have a daughter who is allergic to nuts and I learned this the hard way. There are various degrees of affect of this allergy some people just get rid of it as quickly as it is taken in, others have severe reactions where the airways close up preventing breathing. Most people do not have a nut allergy, just be careful. I think a 2 year old can have peanut butter, my boys did.

I believe it's around age 3, but I'd wait even more than that. My daughter started eating PB&J sandwiches around 2 1/2 and only after eating them a few times a week for a couple of weeks did she start breaking out in hives. At first I didn't know what was causing these 2-3 bumps on her leg, but each time she had PB she got more bumps. So now we don't do any PB or nuts of any kind! The longer you wait, the less likely there will be an alergic reaction - so for this one it's better safe than sorry.

The new "rules" state that you should wait till 3 years old (use to be 2), prior to giving nut or nut products.
