I need a bit of help. Our new baby will be here is about 6 weeks and I am having trouble finding a pediatrician that takes our Insurance (BCBS HMO). We chose this policy over United Health Care because my OB/Gyn was in the network and it pays Maternity coverage at 100%. Also, I do medical billing for rural providers in Texas and BCBS pays them very well. That's not the case in Austin. I guess BCBS reimbursement here sucks and alot of providers aren't excepting new patients or any patients with BCBS. Kyle (our 5 year old son) sees our Family Practice doctor here in Austin but she doesn't take newborns. If you like your pediatrician, would you please give me their name so I can call and see if they will take our new baby as a patient. This due date is creeping up on me and I am worried I won't have a good doctor for her.

Thank you everyone for your responses. After calling around to several practices I found two that are accepting HMO BCBS. Capital Pediatrics and Kangos Pediatrics. My OB/Gyn said great things about Capital Pediatrics so I we are going with them. I am going to the meet and greet next week to meet the doctors. Thanks, again.

I don't know what coverage they take, but the doctors at Bee Caves Ped. are fantastic. They have an excellent web site. We see Dr. Hudson (for son) and Dr. Elena Ruiz (for daughter). Good luck. : )
I have BCBS - Healthselect, which is accepted at any Austin Regional Clinic (ARC) facility. Don't know if that's the same as what you have. If you're north (we live in Pflugerville), Dr. Andrew Cavanagh is wonderful. ###-###-####

I've had wonderful experiences with the doctors at Austin Regional Clinic. We see Dr B on Anderson Mill Rd but have been to the after hours clinic many times and always pleased.

I have found the pediatricians (Dr. Kelly Jolet in particular) at Southwest Pediatrics to be fantastic. I have BCBS through Texas State and have never had a problem with the insurance at their office. I highly recommend them; they are kind, patient, fun, professional, and they obviously love kids. I had the same problem!!! It was very frustrating...I thought BCBS was suppose to be good insurance?! The only doctor that I found to takethat insurance and who I've heard good things about is Dr. Peter Kangos. We have been to him once so far and I do like him. I am not sure what part of town you are in, but we use Dr. Martha Abreu-Macomber. She was in private practice, but recently joined up with Scott & White. She is off of Wells Branch. The office staff is wonderful and supportive.

Have you tried any of the doctors at ADC at FarWest Blvd? We go to doctor Craven but he is retiring but all of the doctors in that practice are great!

I second the recommendation for Capital Pediatrics. We, too, have seen Dr. Treybig and liked her. Our primary dr. there is Dr. Hughes, and we have really liked him. It is a dr. group, so if your child is sick and your main dr. is unavailable, you can see one of the others, which is why we've seen Dr. Treybig on occasion.

I love my son's pediatrician. His name is Dr. Worrel at North Austin Medical Center. He has been my son's pediatrician from birth. Our insurance has changed a couple of times with jobs and he's taken all of them. What's nice is everything is right there from family doctor to specialist, drlivery and even ER. Their main line is ###-###-#### and ask for pediatrics. The front desk can tell you if they take your insurance although it seems like a common one.
Also are you on an individual plan or through work. I recently started a new job that before didn't have an insurance plan and I have been trying to get a group plan but one of the ladies who works here has a lot of medical issues so it's causing the cost to go way up for everyone. I got on my husbands insurance until I could find a better one although his plan isn't great if we have a baby which we are hoping to get pregnant in the near future. Any info would be great. Check out Austin Regional Clinic. I love our pediatrician. She's been great!! The office I use is in Pflugerville, but the Pediatrician that checked on our daughter in the hospital after she was born was from the Round Rock office & we really enjoyed him as well. When I was pregnant (daughter is 22 months), I also checked with my ob/gyn about any suggestions of pediatricians that she knew that took our insurance.

I love Capital Pediatrics and Dr. Treybig as well. I have BCBS Health Select. They are open on Saturdays and Sundays as well which is especially nice with babies/kids. They seem to only get sick on weekends!

My pediatrician takes BCBS PPO, but not sure about the HMO. He is at ARC at Braker and 183 and I (and also my 2 boys ages 2 and 1) love him! His name is Ross Prochnow and there is another Dr in the same practice that we also love and see when we can see Dr. Prochnow. His name is Dr. Greer. Im not sure of his first name.
