Hi moms,
I have 2 children (3 and almost 2) and a third one on the way. We moved to the Pekin/Peoria area about 6 months ago. Up to this point we have only needed a ped. for immunizations, so we drove 2 hours to our prior ped. for those. However, now that is winter and a new baby on the way I need a doctor closer. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or recommendations of a good Pediatrician/ Family Doctor in the Pekin/Peoria area. I have called a few and so far no one is accepting new patients. Also, if anyone knows of doctors not to go to, I wouldn't mind that either. Thanks!
A.

In Morton there is the Morton Methodist Medpoint which has doctors in it. I take my son to Dr. Flint and he is wonderful. He's new so I think he's still taking new patients. I also like the fact that if something happens his chart is there for the medpoint and then Dr. Flint knows what they said.

I have been taking my five children to Mt. Hawley Pediatrics in Peoria, near the intersection of Route 40 (Knoxville Ave) and Pioneer Parkway, for four years. I have been very happy with them, both the pediatrician we see, Dr. Halperin, and the nurse practitioner, Carol Miller. It is a wonderfully responsive practice. When my youngest son, 7 yr old Joshua, was extremely ill, they got me in to see Carol, since Dr. Halperin was booked, but when it was so serious and he was looking worse right there in the office, Dr. Halperin came in, and then he asked me wait a few minutes until their hospitalization doctor (Dr Alnatour, Kasey had his name in her post) came in a few minutes later. That doctor admitted Josh to the hospital for fluids, and he was back to his old self the next day. They did not shrug off my concern, or rush us through the visit. Otherwise he would have gotten worse at home.

Dr. Terry Smith/OSF Medical Group Glen Park/685-8512 - He's wonderful but we can't go to him anymore cause our insurance doesn't cover him.

Now we see Dr. Alnatour with Methodist at Mt. Hawley. There is lots of Doctors in the practice and he is my favorite so far. A couple of the other women doctors I didn't care for. The seem to over diagnose and prescribe but Alnatour is wonderful and won't go overboard with medicating. Halperin is good too in that practice but getting older and not sure how long he'll be there.

Hope this helps. Contact me if you have any other questions.

I take both our daughters to the OSF Medical Group in Morton (a pediatric practice), all of their doctors are wonderful and I have no complaints. You can talk to a nurse on the phone and they will tell you if the child needs to be seen or not. After-hours your call is routed to a phone nurse call center, so someone is available to speak to 24/7.

The office staff is very friendly as well and when you need to be seen right away, I've always been able to get in that same day. An added bonus - OSF Promptcare is in the same building.
