When did you get your first period after you stopped breastfeeding? I breastfeed my baby exclusively for the first 5-6 months and he is now 7 months old and I still haven't started my period again. Just curious. Thanks!
My son just had his 1st bday this week, and i still haven't had a period. I'm still breastfeeding though, and was on depo until about 4 mos ago, so it could still be from that. Are you still bfing at all? Because everyone is different, and you may just be more sensitive to hormones.

Had baby 6/06..breast fed for 15 mos...NO period but didn't know that I was ovulating so got pregnant again 22 mos later. Had 2nd child 3/08..still no period...so I haven't had a period in nearly 2.5years. No birth control ever so guess I am one of those rare ones. I don't miss it. Plan to breast feed 2nd child thru 15 mos. GOt tubes tide to prevent any more "blessings"!
Enjoy it while you can

My 3rd I did not get it back at all, she nursed for over 13 months, when I weaned her I was 6 wks pregnant. My 4th I got it back at 9-10 months but again not regularly (well the 2 I had were regular, the next would have been late but I was pregnant so it never came)

I just got my first period since Janurary 2005. Let me explain: I got pregnant with boy number 2 in Jan, Had him in November, breastfed for 23 months. Got pregnant again in June 07. Another boy. Boy number three is turning one year old on this Wednesday, and is a very finicky nurser, so his demand is not way up there. Viola! Period returned! I really enjoyed it while it lasted.....

In the past I haven't gotten it til my boys were 13 months old even though they were still nursing at that point as well. Then again I've been breastfeeding constantly since dec 2003 so maybe I'm not the best example as its always my goal to at least go the first year with very minimal food and only after they can actually reach for it and somewhat help themselves. Its also helped in that my boys don't have food allergies where as my daughter who I followed a drs advice and fed her too early does.

10 months for both of mine, even though they continued to nurse long past that time.

I exclusively breastfeed my little girl for almost her first year and I started my cycle again at 6 weeks! I am one of those rare people I guess, however, I never got pregnant the whole time. One of my girlfriends stopped breastfeeding at 15 months and didn't start back until her son was two. Everyone is just different. You will start soon enough and it will probably be real light and stop and go for a while (if you are anything like my friend). I wish I had that same problem! giggles.

With my first it was at 10 months. With my second it was at 13 months. I have to second what the previous poster said. You will ovulate before your period returns, so be careful!

First, did you have regular periods before you were pregnant because if not it is kind of hard to determine when you will have another. My periods have always been irregular unless I am on the pill. With my son I breastfed him for the first year and I did not have a period at all even though I was on the pill(not the regular pill but one for those that are breastfeeding). I have heard that sometimes it takes a couple of months or so for your body to adjust back to normal after you stop breastfeeding. I hope this was helpful to you!

My daughter was 10 months before I started my period again. It was wonderful not having one for a while. She was my third child and would NOT take a bottle. The first two were not breastfed as long so I started my period sooner - I can't really remember when. They are now 18 and almost 16 so my memory fades!

I'm in the same boat and curious as well. Exclusively fed for 4 months, stopped altogether at 7 months and now he is 8 months and nothing yet I have friends who got it at 7/8 months who were still exclusively b-feeding...

Are you using any birth control? That can also contribute to delaying your period. So many hormones with the nursing and birth control combined.

I breastfed both of my babies until they were 11 - 12 months. With my first, I got my first period when she was nine months and with my second at three months. It is different with every person I think.

Exclusively breastfed all of my kids for the first 6 months and with all of them I got my period 5-6 weeks postpartum and then monthly after that. Full time breastfeeding and having a period. No fair. I think everyone is different... just beware - even though you may not be seeing a period you very well may be ovulating!
My sister in law was more the norm... nursed for a year and then got her period about 2 months after stopping. As long as your milk has dried up theoretically your hormones should be normalizing out.
Best wishes!
