I have always had my period while breastfeeding regardless. I don't think that breastfeeding on demand or exclusively has anything to do with it, because I do both and STILL get my period. Each women's body is different.
I am breastfeeding and I just got my period. Is this normal? My daughter is 3 months old. Is it possibly because I took fenugreek to up my milk supply?
Thanks everyone. I am exclusively pumping and have been since birth. My supply hasn't decreased...but it hadn't increased either so I thought I'd try fenugreek to up my supply. I haven't changed my frequency of pumping (every 2hrs except at night---but I've done this since birth as well). So nothing has changed except I got my period. We use condoms because I always heard that it's not 100% if you're breastfeeding...I guess I just thought you didn't get your period pretty much until later...not 3 months. My sisters all skipped their periods for the whole year or so that they breastfed. My first was formula fed due to latching problems so I wasn't sure if this was normal. Thanks for the responses. :) I wish I was lucky and had no period this whole time.

I had mine the entire time I was breastfeeding, some of us are just not lucky enought to get a longer break from our monthly friend.
My period came back at 4 months but it's not an indication of milk supply. I nursed my youngest for 22 months!
I nursed both my kids, and with my first it came back at 6 weeks, and with my second it came back around 10 months. It can come back at any time.
Yes, it is possible to get your period while breastfeeding, that's why your Dr will tell you to use a form of contraceptive if you don't want to get pregnant right away. Although I didn't get mine until my daughter turned one, but everyone is different. And It's not because you are taking fenugreek, I took that as well. There is no real rhyme or reason as to why some women get it and others don't, unless you are not exclusively BF on demand, then that might be why. But, yes, it is normal! :)
it's not unusual and not caused by the fenugreek.
ive had mine 3 times in the two years ive been lactating, its supposed to supress the hormones that cause menstruation, but sometimes it does not completely stop it.
Many women get their period while still breastfeeding. I did, at 5 months, but it hasn't been regular (I'm still BF at 10 mths). It's a mistake a lot of women make to believe that ovulation and menstruation are "on hold" for the duration of breastfeeding, and they end up accidently pregnant right away! It's true, a lot of women get a break from their period while they breastfeed, but it's totally normal to have one while breastfeeding. You didn't do anything to cause it, it's a natural process that's different for everyone. It doesn't affect your breastfeeding at all, so keep it up! Isn't being a woman grand?
It IS possible. I got my period while breastfeeding but not until around 6-8 motnhs. It depends in part on how much you breastfeed and some variation among women. At 3 months your baby is taking a little less milk, so your period came back.
I was having problems with my milk supply too. My sons was about 4 months when I got my period again. I was both breast feeding and formula becasue I could not produce enough milk. My doctor told me that I could get my period as early as 2 months, but usually women who are breastfeeding it comes in later. But every woman is different and I found with my friends, those of us who were breastfeeding and having problems with breastfeeding got their period sooner.... maybe the stress of dealing breastfeeding problems. just a thought... and if you are really concerned a quick call to your doctor may easy your mind
It's actiwlly pretty common to start your period while still breastfeeding. Everyone's body is different. I just had my third child 3 months ago, but with my 1st two kids I started after about 4 months after they were born. I continued breastfeeding until they were 14 & 15 months respectively, so supply shouldn't be affected. You can conceive though, so you may want to look into contraception that would be safe to use while breastfeeding.
I have had mine since about month 3 or 4 and regularly since then.
I didn't start mine until my baby started sleeping through the night and I guess when I stopped feeding through the night my hormones changed causing mine to start. Oh and when my fourth baby was 7 weeks old and had never had an ounce of formula, I got pregnant with #5 and we were using traditional BC methods so I would definitly recommend being careful.
It is NORMAL to get a period while breastfeeding....some women will and some won't and the time frame varies widely. I am a mom and grandma and while breastfeeding one of my sons, my period did not return for almost nine months and with the other one, it returned in about 4 months. Breastfeeding DOES not prevent pregnancy, either. Some women will not get pregnant while breastfeeding and others will get pregnant easily while breastfeeding (and not using any birth control). But anyway, getting your period during breastfeeding is OK....
For me, it was normal. I always try and check different symptoms out with the doctor to be sure, but I would think that this is normal. Your periods will resume at some point. That is why breastfeeding is NOT birth control! Have a few friends who have made that mistake and have children so close together it would have made my head hurt! I have four kids and my period came faster every time. ALSO, they may not be on a schedule right away. Did not seem to matter about the intensity or frequency of breastfeeding.
Yeah it's normal. I got my period at 3 months while bfeeding both my little ones!! It's just not fair, i know. My cousin just got hers and her baby just turned one!! I dont think it has anything to do with the herbs.
