Permanent Marker on White Kitchen Floor

Have you tried Melaleuca products? I know you can wipe permanent marker off of a photo with out harming the photo with their cleaner.

There is a product put out by Mr. Clean called the Magic Eraser. It works great on everything. Just spray the spot with a little bit of cleaner and scrub with a dampened Magic Eraser. It should work pretty good.

A friend of mine her daughter put permanent maker on her sofa, she was told to use Deep Woods Off (bug repellant) I guess it is supposed to work on all markers

Good news! I think I might be able to help you out. I recently discovered a cleaning product called Snap Cream Scouring Cleanser. It's sold exclusively through a company called Market America and I just signed on with them as an independent distributor.

As luck would have it, my 7-year old daughter gave me a simililar challenge to deal with. She managed to get permanent marker all over our countertops after drawing pictures on paper and having it bleed through.

The only thing that works on getting out permanant marker on everything is solumel. You can get this through a wellness company called Melaleuca Inc. Have you ever heard of it? Well any way I am a customer with them and if you have really tried everything else to get out the marker and you are at the end of solution, this really works and if it doesn't do its job you can get a full refund.

The same thing happened to me when my son was younger- he wrote all over the white walls with black permanent marker! I bought this stuff called Goo Gone and with a little elbow grease, it worked.

My son did the same thing when he was 2! The only thing that took it out was lots of hairspray (luckily I had some aquanet) and I scrubbed with an emery stone (used for filing fingernails) and a lot of elbow grease! It did take the finish off so we had spot polish the floor.

Brake fluid will completely remove permanent marker. My 3 year old daughter wrote with one all over the leather seats, cloth roof and DVD monitor in my husbands car last summer. He went on line and found this solution and it worked like a miracle, even on the delicate monitor screen.

Have you tried Goo B Gone, I have not found anything it does not take off. It is hard to find, I have luck in hardware stores. It is a concentrated orange oil, with some petroleum in it. If you use it make sure your kids do not touch it and I always clean the area that I use it on well before I let my little ones around. The longer you let it sit on the mark the better it works. Let me know if it works for you!

I asked my husband and he said to try Simple Green and or Baking Soda. I would have thought that the magic eraser would have worked. The only other question on the issue is what kind of floor covering is it? Because if it is tile it will take something stronger and able to go into the pores of the floor. If the simple green or baking soda doesn't work try bleach.

Try nail polish remover. Note that it may leave a haze but better than prmnt marker.

Try that anti-bacterial handgel, it usually does the trick. I'm a teacher and I once accidentally used permanent marker on my white board (you get the picture: the entire board was covered with vocabulary...) and out of desperation I tried what was in my handbag and it worked! good luck! D.

A., Well this problem just happened at my daughters school on a white wooden rocking chair and the janitor used a product called ZIZ-O. It took the purple permanent marker completely off. I copied some info about it. Just google ZIZ-O. ZIZ-O is used in schools, hospitals, public facilities, business, and industry. It is and excellent choice for nonporous, enameled and painted surfaces, stainless steel, plastic, fiberglass, Formica, and all types of tile. ZIZ-O is safe to use on desk tops, partitions, locker, painted concrete walls, mirrors, glass shower stalls, floors and counter tops. I hope this helps. J. M.

I have had permanent marker get onto dry erase boards at school. The best thing I've been able to get it up with has been nail polish remover. Test a small area to make sure it doesn't discolor or remove the finish first.

There is a product called Goof Off that should do the trick. You can find it at hardware stores!

I seem to remember this little tip from my first grade teaching days - use Aqua Net aerosol hair spray on it, then rub like crazy. You really need to soak it with hairspray and rub before it dries. It works to lighten the stain, but may not take it up completely.

This is a strange-sounding solution, but I have seen it work to remove permanent marker from glass. Use the same marker that your little one did the damage with, and trace over the marks that are there- then immediately wipe with rubbing alcohol. I'm not sure whether it will work the same on floors, but if they're tile I think you have a good shot at it. Good luck!

My ds did the same thing to our refrigerator with a fat permanent marker I had out to write on moving boxes. We had to spray paint (maybe 6 coats??) it to cover it over. I can't remember if it was special "refridgerator white" paint or what exactly we used. But it did such a good job -although a true pain in the neck- that we showed our landlord, he agreed it was fine and we were not charged for it.
I say all that to suggest you check at a good hardware store and see if they have any thing to help you with your ds artwork. We can't be the only ones with artists in our families, they must have something to fix it with! let us know how it works out. W. W

Hello. I'm sure you've tried a lot of stuff, but if your floors can take it (mine are laminant/tile)try nail polish remover. Any kind seems to work at my house. Then was up the spot with floor cleaner just to remove any excess/left over nail polish remover. Hope this helps.

Oh I guess someone already mentioned alcohol. That usually does the trick.

I know this may sound a little weird, but try going over it with a washable marker and see it that will lift it off...I have my own little picasso here and it's taken perm. marker off of a few different surfaces in my home,,worth a try! Good Luck!

What about paint thinner? I would check to see if it would harm the floors. But that stuff should remove anything. I'm surprised about the magic eraser, that has worked wonders for me.

I know it sounds silly, but if you have some baby wipes they seem to wipe up and clean off most anything.

I have learned to let the grandkids clean their own messes. The product is safe for them; nothing you have to put up. I use environmentally safe products from an International Health and Wellness Company. The product is call Sol-U-Mel and its good for black marker, tar, etc, safe on paints and all surfaces. There are no side effects or health concerns using this product or any other product this company makes.

With these safer products the children have learned, if they mess it up, they can also clean it up, which is showing them how to be accountable. My 5-year old grandson was visiting during the holidays and came to me, let me know he made a mistake and asked for the Sol-U-Mel and a Viva paper towel. :)

Hey, A.. I understand your dilemma. I'm now a district mentor for Boston Public Schools, but when I was in the classroom, I had the same dilemma with students using permanent instead of dry erase markers on my whiteboard. Try rubbing alcohol. That usually works.

I've had great results with removing pen fron my navigator with Gonzo. I find it at Market Basket. It takes application after application... but it disappears with out much scrubbing. I would apply it and leave it repeatedly till it was gone...ONLY to have my 2 year old do it again. UGH!!

nail polish remover?

Oh my! We had this same trouble a few months ago. We had/still have it on the couch, chair, wall, TV, piano etc...you get the idea. I called the company for the solution. After several transfers, they couldn't help! They did suggest nail polish remover, carpet cleaner(worked the best), witch hazel, window cleaner, GoJo(worked second best).
The company said permanent marker is just that "permanent".

With four kids I've found Goo Gone and Oops work wonders!

Nail polish remover may work, also, test this first, but I have found on different surfaces, if you write over the marker again and immediatley clean it up with nailpolish remover, it will come back off, but make SURE that you spot test it on a tiny little spot thats already there first... Good luck, it sounds like you have your hands full!!!

Hi! I was teaching English in Chile when someone switched permanent black marker for the black dry erase markers I had been using on the white boards. I freaked but then one of the teachers bought some alcohol, medical type, and the marker came right off. It did not even leave any gray/black residue. Let me know.

Have you tried baby wipes? Baby wipes took hair color off many a garment for me. Maybe you'll be successful on your floors. Scary to think that we use them on our Lil ones. Good luck with the move!

You may want to try "grease lightning"-- not sure if it will work but you can buy it at the Christmas Tree shops... hope this helps

Try Goo Gone. Let it soak in for a minute or two, and wipe with a dry rag. I have used this stuff on stains that I thought would never come out, and it has worked on most.

Mr Clean's magic eraser. Alcohol or nail polish or hairspray will work. With the 1st two you may take your finish off of your floor. Well, it probably will.

Try fingernail poish remover.

I would try a cleaner that I use on my electric cooktop - I have found it to take stains off EVERYTHING, including my countertop stained with juices, mustard, etc, marker off my son's playtable, stains in the tub, etc. You can buy it at Walmart - it's called Weiman Cook Top Glass Cook Top Cleaner. Have you tried baby oil? I use it whenever the kids get marker, even permanent, on themselves. it might take a few good hard swipes but it usually works for me.

A little about me: I'm 45 years old, divorced for too many years than I can remember. I've been working full time for, for, ever. I have a 20 year old son a 26 year old married daughter who signed me up on Mamasource and the most beautiful, smartest 1 year old grand daughter on the planet.

I know this sounds a little crazy but I've heard that if you draw over the mark with permanent marker you'll be able to wipe it up immediately while it's still wet.

Try nail polish remover, and/or hairspray. This seems to help ink and marker stains in the laundry, maybe it will work on the floor. Worth a try.

goo be gone works on everything just tset before you use, use a tiny bit too.

Hi, A. -- I don't have a lot of advice about the stains, but try baking soda, first by itself, then maybe with Comet or Barkeeper's Friend. You might also try a little vinegar with the baking soda (it will fizz, as it does in drains, but it may activate enough molecules to get at the stain); rinse off one combination before attempting another, so you don't knock yourself out! You might also try contacting the manufacturers of both the markers and the flooring for suggestions.
My initial reaction to your story was a sympathetic chuckle: when my daughter was three, she used crayons on the living room wallpaper just when we were about to sell the house! She said there was no drawing paper (because of packing up)! We got most of it off with paper towels under a warm iron (not that that will help your floor), but had to replace a very small section where we'd run out of the wallpaper and had improvised with some old uncoated paper -- that's a whole story unto itself!

Hey A., I have the perfect thing- I use Solumel to clean all of my difficult marks- paint, perm. marker, blood, vomit, crayon, pen, etc. I order it through the wellness company I get all my cleaning and personal care products from- Melaleuca Inc.~ The Wellness Company. You can buy a permant marker eraser at Staples and the like. Its another marker type thing. My husband uses them all the time as a designer, but we've never tried floors before. Worth a try, though. Good luck.

Try hairspray or rubbing alcohol, that should remove the ink. Spray it on and immediately wipe or apply the alcohol with a cotton ball and wipe off with a dry cloth.

Before becoming a stay-at-home Mom, I taught 5th grade in a classroom with a white board instead of a chalk board. A student mistakenly used a permanent marker on the board and one of my colleauges said that nail polish remover would remove the marker. I tried it and it worked! Maybe nail polish remover would perform the same miracle on your floor... Good luck!

Did you try hairspray? That's what my mom always used. The crappier the hairspray the better (Like Aquanet or Rave). It might dull the varnish on the floors- but then you could go over the spot with Pledge or some kind of furniture polish to mask the difference.

Use Meleleuca Mel U sol but do not dilute it and it will come off.

I shop at an awesome store online, and it sells a product called Sol U Mel. It will likely take the marker right off. I think I might have an extra bottle - you're welcome to try it. I'm in North Chelmsford too, so let me know if you'd like me to bring it by!

I used the Heavy duty magic eraser when my boy did that to my walls. It worked a lot better than the normal magic eraser. You might have to use an entire eraser though.

My daughter drew a huge picture on the wall with crayon when she was about 18 months, I found this great product called "oops" in the hardware store. They now have it in a spray or a liquid. Great for other things as well, grease on the floor, scuff marks, markers etc. I always keep it in the house even now that my kids are 14 and 11.
If that doesnt work there is also some stuff called "pink stuff" that works good as well. You would find that in a VIP auto store which is also great for stain on clothes!
