I think dusk, right before sunset is the best/softest light and I'd avoid wearing white.
Hi all of you Mama photographers,
I have a question regarding how to get the best photos at the beach. We are planning to take a family vacation to Destin in a few weeks and I have a family member who has agreed to take some family photos of us. I want to make sure they come out great and am not sure if the equipment I have is appropriate. I have a Canon Rebel Xsi camera with the 18 x 55 lens (i think!). I am planning to get another lens to allow me to zoom farther and wider, but wondered if I needed a filter of some kind. Also, what do you recommend regarding best time of day- morning or evening?
Thanks in advance!!!
R.

We are going to Destin in May and having a photographer come out to our condo to take the pictures on the beach. We're having our's made at sunset since that is what the photographer suggests...she said we'll meet at 6:30pm and the photo shoot will last an hour. I'm hoping for the best since I have three kids (3yrs, 2yrs, and 8mo)...I can only hope for happy moods! :)
If your interested in looking at her work let me know and I'll send you her website...it's fun to get ideas on clothing, poses, etc...
IMO, nothing beats that evening sunset lighting!
Overcast weather is best and avoid high noon when the overhead sun makes everyone squint and have dark undereye shadows.
Khaki bottoms and white shirts look awesome at the beach!
We had family pictures done at the beach and we went right as the sun was setting, before it got dark, which is what the photographer recommended due to the best lighting. The pictures came out great and the lighting was perfect!
After you get the photos you can do some amazing things with phoo software. You can download a free 30 day trial of Elements from Adobe Photoshop and you won't believe all that it can do. You can even combine photos if you have two you like but the one you like best has someone with closed eyes, etc - you can get rid of the bad part of the photo and combine into one great one. It is incredible what you can do with lighting, coloring, cropping, etc. Have fun.
