Pink Puffyness Under My One Year Olds Eye

Okay,
Yesterday my 14 month old son was having his snack and everything was fine. He was eating some cheese, mini peanut butter ritz crackers and orange juice. After he was done, I put him down for his nap but about 20 min later he still wasn't asleep so I went to get him out. When I went to get him, I noticed that his right eye was very swollen underneath and very pink. It looked like it was half closed. He was acting totally fine and seemed to be unaware of it. Over the next 1.5 hours, it seemed to go away. What was that? Is he allergic to peanut butter? That is the only thing that I can think of since it happened right after he ate it? He has had cheese and orange juice before and that never happened. Anyone else experience this?

What can I do next?

Definitely sounds like an allergic reaction...probably to the PB. My youngest gets eye swelling and redness from milk protein. He does have a confirmed dairy allergy.

I recommend getting him tested because subsequent exposures to whatever caused the first reaction can be much more serious. I have a great allergist if you are interested..just email me.

Two out of my three children have food allergies...both require we carry epi pens. My oldest is allergic to peanuts and nuts (peanuts are not nuts...just fyi). We discovered this when she was 2 and touched a nut. Put her hands on lips and broke out in hives and started to cough.

Good luck!

could be a reaction to the peanut butter they are not suppose to have it until 3 I hear now. I gave it to my kids early like 20 months. I did hear however the first reaction is mild the second one is usually worse. I would wait to give him it again.

I would definitely have him tested for peanut allergies. This can be a very dangerous allergy in children and does get worse with each introduction of the food. There are too many products on the market that contain nuts or nut oils. Be careful!

Good luck!

I wouldn't give him peanut butter again! The reaction will get worse with subsequent exposure.
I would call your pediatrician. They can send him to an allergist to see how allergic he is and if you'll need to carry an epi pen with you. Peanut allergies are VERY serious.

Possibly. My son is very allergic to peanuts and I introduced him to peanut butter at around the same age. He broke out around his mouth and started throwing up almost immediately, but every child is different. I would definately take him to an allergist and get it checked out. You don't want to mess around with peanut allergies. Good luck.
