Placenta Previa - Aurora, IL

I had my third ultrasound today because of a low lying placenta. I am 35 weeks and have read up on the internet about placenta previa and it did nothing but scare the heck out of me. Have any of you had this complication, how did it affect your labor/delivery? Thanks

I had placenta previa in the first 1/2 of my pregnancy but it moved off to the side before delivery. Did the OB say that you had placenta previa or is this something you are worried could happen?
If you have placenta previa they will watch you very close and you will have a planned c-section. You can not go through labor and delivery if you have full blown placenta previa. I think you should discuss this over with you doctor some more.

Best of luck,

I agree with the other gals. This is a case by case situation. I had the worse possible case - long story and it would scare the heck out of you, but my son is going to be 11 in December. He is healthy, happy and oh so smart! He is 5'3" already and plays football. So, just keep informed, but don't assume the worst. Even though I had the worst possible case it all turned out just fine. (Incidently, I did it all again 3 years later.) I have had two c-sections, but the boys are well worth it. shoot me an e-mail if you have questions later on!

I agree with the other poster, how concerned is your doctor? Placenta can move out of th eway just in time in the matter of minutes and breeched babies turn at the last second. A friend had this issue and it kept changing over the last few weeks. She did end up with a c-section but everything was fine otherwise. The best thing to do is listen to your doc, talk about it and relax.

I had a low lying placenta with my daughter and I delivered her naturally with no problems. The stories scared me as well, so you are not the only one. I remember my doctor did ultrasounds more often to make sure it did not become a placenta previa. But I was just more careful about everything I did and everything was fine. Happily married SAHM with an 8 year old stepson, 7 year old son, 6 year old stepdaughter, 5 year old daughter and almost 2 year old daughter.

I had that when I was 3 months along. I had to take it easy for 6 weeks, no lifting, etc. and it was fine. Labor and delivery were ok. I would just take it really easy and rest which I'm sure your doctor told you to do and you should be ok. At least you're at the end and they can deliver the baby if necessary, instead of early in pregnancy, when you have the chance of miscarrying. Good luck!

Just want to give you some sight of relief...don't be frighteded. I did the same my husband and I read up on it, I believe that the internet tends to be there for source, but at times you just have to stay relaxed on it...I was bed bound for 7 months out of my 9 months with my 4 baby have had perfectly good pregnancies on my other 3 babies and I blamed myself for having done this to my new baby and took it hard...but at the end just found out she was a difficult pregnancy all the way around once she was ready for delievery she actually went breach and they preped me to have an emergency c-section my placenta previa did clear by the time I ended up in labor and they say that it does once you get further along and would you know it had to be induced at the end...at first she wanted out sooner then she should and that is what doctors worried about with the high risk of hemoraging...so just keep the faith and positive attitude..things will turn out great...I know have a healthy very active 7 year-old...:) So good luck to you and try not to stress about it believe me easier said then done...but I had all the odds against me and kept being told it's one out of so many mutiple pregnancies this happens too as well as them going brech and the cord around their neck...so all the way around...it work and I had her natural...cause I was more scared of the c-section but I also had a 250lb doctor litterally on top of me turning her to position her and since I had the epederal I wasn't feeling a thing but pressure and there was a curtain between us my husband just kept saying oh nothing is happening he is just trying to adjust her and well after the fact he said I couldn't tell you before hand or you would of freaked but you should of seen his knee in your stomach and actually pulling the baby to turn her around...just had faith that she would be okay and well as soon as the doctor did that and we went back into my room...the little devil turned once again...what were those odds so they were ready for the c-section and at last minute she decided to turn back to the right side...so needless to say we wanted 5 kids and she sort of made up our minds to stay with 4, although they say it may not happen again we would rather not take that chance...it does do a trick on your thinking...so hang in there everything will be fine. Good Luck

I had a mild case of it, they did several ultrasounds to monitor it, and decided it was okay for a natural birth. I had a very long labor with very little dilation and ended up on Pitocin. It was hard for me to push my son through, and he kind of got "stuck," but they couldn't determine that the placenta previa was the exact cause. He had some complications and injuries from the long and rough delivery, but is now a 16-month old happy & healthy toddler!

I had a low lying placenta that was detected at week 29, I believe. My doctor kept things calm by having regular ultrasounds to check how close it really was to being a problem. They would never diagnose it as previa, but I was a centimeter away at one point. My water broke, had contractions for 5 1/2 hours, pushed for two and ended up with a c-section. The previa never caused a problem for me. I hope it doesn't for you either. I think what the books say make it scarier than what it really is. Also, my understanding is that if it really is previa, they will recommend a c-section before you go into labor. Good luck!
