I am looking for some suggestions for places to go in and around DFW area? This would be a kids camping trip. The age groups are between 2-6yrs so a day or two day trip is what I am looking at.

What can I do next?

There is a great place just north of Lewisville on the lake. It's called Hickory Creek. Once at the campsite, you feel like your hours away, but very close to I35 to get home quickly if you need.

There is also a WalMart within a 5 minute drive. Campsites 52 and 54 are directly across from the playground, so you can watch the kids from your site. All the sites in that area have great lake views and access if they want to swim or put their feet in.

There are hiking trails and woods to go exploring, and a boat dock to go fishing down the road in another area. In the sites where I've suggested (52 and 54), each site has electricity and water if you need.

I think this is a great place, especially for first time families due to the proximity, facilities and nearby shopping, etc.

We've had great fun out there with friends/family and have had kids out there from ages 3 to 12 and everyone has fun! ENJOY!!

i run a free yahoo based web group called what to do dfw. Here is a link: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WhatToDoDFW/ this is a list of activities in and around the dfw area for moms or families to attend. its quick easy and free to sign up. Just go to the link - click join - fill out the little enrollment thing and voila -- you're in. the chronological lists are in the "files" folder under "calendars" maybe that will give you ideas for specific timeframes for things to do...

as far as camping close by... id honestly say Meadowmere park in Lake Grapevine would be close...but the most fun would be had at Fossil Rim or near Glenrose at the Dinosaur Valley Park. :)

If you are willing to drive just a bit outside of DFW, Tyler State Park is a great place to camp and take the kids...there are playgrounds, a lake, trails to hike and bike and it is just beautiful out there. Also, about 2 miles from the park is a Big Cat sanctuary that my son just loved....
My husband and I are big campers and so glad that our son enjoys it also...but we have not camped much within the DFW area.
Dino State Park is also another great place to camp and spend a couple of days...again, you would need to make a drive...
