Hi Everyone! I took plan B exactly one week ago. Since then, I have been having nausea, dizziness and headaches. I am also nursing exclusively. I started spotting on and off yesterday. Is it normal for the side effects to last this long?

What can I do next?

Yes, unfortunately its normal. Plan B is a lot of hormones for your body to take on so its expected your period could be late, breakthrough bleeding etc. I would check their website for more info about side effects. The only other thing I would say is if you have any blood pressure issues at all, you would want to go and get checked right away. Some of your symptoms are similar to what you get with HBP.. So be aware and hope you feel better soon!

Longer, actually.

You just bombarded your body with a very high dose of hormones. Your body has to cycle through those hormones and work them out of your system.

Here are the side effects as listed on the Plan B site. As you can see, it can even affect your next period. For me, I skipped a period completely and had a very heavy for the next month.

Side effects:

When taken as directed, Plan B One-Step® is safe and effective, and the side effects are generally mild. Some women may experience side effects similar to those of many birth control pills, including changes in their period, a heavier or lighter next period, or a period that is early or late. If your period is more than a week late, you may be pregnant. If you have severe abdominal pain, you may have an ectopic pregnancy, and should get immediate medical attention.

When taking this product you may have:

Nausea
Lower abdominal pain
Fatigue
Headache
Dizziness
Breast tenderness

It is a high dose of hormones, so it doesn't sound unreasonable to me, although a call to your doctor is always a good idea.

And don't let uneducated people make you feel bad, Plan B is not an abortifactient, and you are not having a miscarriage because of it: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/06/health/research/morning...

It sounds to me like you're having the normal reaction. I just had to do plan B last month and a week after I took it I spotted for 2 weeks straight until my actual period came. I was also rather nausous and barely had an appetite.
If you're concerned because you're also nursing you should consult a doctor for peace of mind.

Contraceptives prevent conception. Plan B is not a contraceptive but an abortifacient. Therefore you are experiencing the symptoms of a miscarriage.
