I'm 27 yrs old, and I'm almost 5 months preganant with my first child, and I'm currently working contract through a temp. service. I've been on assignment here since June of last year and I because I'm on assignment I don't have any health/medical coverage. I have a OBGYN that I've been going to since I was 20, however I would need some form of medical insurance for future visits.

Can anyone tell me how I should go about getting testing, sonogram's, medical advice etc?

Thanks for your help in advance!!! : )

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for your help, and suggestions... I applied for Medicaid and was denied because they said I made to much money. So that was really a hard blow. I'm going to call my staffing agency today to find out if I can get healthcare insurance, but every insurance company I've talked to won't accept me because I'm already pregnant.

I've been eating healthy and taking my vitamins and doing a lot of prayer... I pray everything is okay with my baby.

I'll keep you guys posted :)

And thanks again

You may qualify for Texas public aid medical care, also you will want to sign up for WIC. If your not going to breast feed you will want WIc, they pay for formula and that is very expensive as well.
I dont know what kind of work you do but Best Buy in Lewisville is hiring for full time people. 32 hour is considered full time, they need morning workers and they have Great Medical and 401K benefits.
Good luck.

You'll want to make sure and see a doctor during your pregnancy. If by the time you go into labor you haven't had any prenatal care the hospital will get CPS involved and they could say you've neglected your child which is grounds for child removal. Go see Real Options!

There is a women's health clinic at Big Presbyterian hospital. Call them , they can help you. I think they have may have one also in Plano. They would help you get established with medicaid. There are some private MD that will take medicaid, you just have to do your research. It is important that you don't wait any longer. Just call the main number at Presby and ask for the women's health clinic. If you have problems , email me. Hope this helps

Hi- I had a similar thing going on with my 2nd and 3rd children- The hospital I delivered at would let you pre-pay your stay and that covered everything with mom and baby- It was truly a blessing because #3 ended up in the NICU for 2 weeks and it didnt cost us anything out of pocket!!($42000)- The best thing as someone else said- negotiate thru everything- ask about cash pay discounts (this helped us alot!) pre-pay discounts and payment plans!! Ggod luck and burn up those phone lines calling everyone you can- they will work with you- they want their money!! Congratulations on your baby!!!

Can you qualify for medicaid? This would be your best bet, if you qualify it will pay for everything. At 5 months, you really need to start getting pre-natal care now! You can buy pre-natal vitamins over the counter. If you are not already taking them, they are not that expensive. I have 2 children and my first was paid for on medicaid b/c I wasn't finished with college yet. I got really good care. Please check into this soon. Good luck!

I have two children. I had the first one while working and with group insurance and I had the second one while I was a stay at home mom with individual health insurance that doesn't cover prenatal, pregnancy, or delivery. I actually paid less for my second child's pregnancy and delivery.
My best advice is to negotiate, negotiate, negotiate. My OBGYN gives a significant discount for prenatal care is you are self-pay. My sonograms were almost 75% off because I was self pay. The hospital that I delivered at gave me an awesome discount (about 60% off) for the delivery as long as I paid for it before I delivered.
After I delivered, the epidural bill was around $2000. I called them and offered to pay the entire bill if they would give me a discount. I ended up paying around $900.
Hope that helps and good luck!

I used to work for a staffing company and they actually had health coverage options for the temps depending on how long you were working. Have you talked to the staffing company that you are working through about what they might offer? That's where I would start. They might have some good options for you since you are working full time through them.
