Hi,
My son currently attends school in Martinez, but I was not happy with his school for kindergarten, and am already frustrated again in first grade. We are considering moving to Pleasant Hill in order to switch schools. Do any of you have personal experience with the public elementary schools in PH? Thanks!
S.

My daughter went to Strandwood and had really good teachers every year. My niece went to Pleasant Hill Elementary and they really liked that school as well. Sequoia is also a very good school, but you have to get on the waiting list (prerably at age 3 to have a good chance at admittance).
If on-site after school care is a necessity, then PHE and Sequoia day care programs are much better than the one at Strandwood.
Good Luck.

I live in Pleasant HIll and have been very impressed by the schools. My son (now in 8th grade) went to Strandwood. It was wonderful a small setting of classrooms very involved staff and parents. I have a few friends who's children go to Sequoia and Pleasant Hill elementary and have only good things to say. Hope this helps, good luck.

We live in Walnut Creek, but are in the Mt. Diablo School District. So, we attend Pleasant Hill Elementary. My son is in Second Grade and we love PHE. If you are considering moving to Pleasant Hill, I can't recommend the school enough. The parent involvement is great, the teachers are fantastic and the overall dynamic of the school is great. Good luck with your decision.

Hello,

Both of my kids went to Valhalla Elementary in Pleasant Hill. Both had great experiences there. The teachers are all really great. Most live in the neighborhood. Many have kids who have gone to Valhalla too. My son is in high school now at College Park. My daughter just graduated and is a freshman at Cal Poly. I think their beginning years in elementary school gave them a big boost.

The only downside is the middle school. I don't think Valley View is really a poor school. I just think the middle school years are very hard on kids. I wasn't all that impressed by the level of learning at the middle school. My kids were lucky to be in band and that seemed to get them hooked in with a great group of kids that lasted all the way through to high school.

When we lived in Pleasant Hill my daughter went to Strandwood. Her first grade teacher was the best teacher she has ever had. Her name is Mrs.McGurk, and as far as I know as of last year she is still there.

Good Luck!

Everyone I know that has gone to Strandwood, or Pleasant Hill Elementary LOVES them. Parents and children alike both are happy with these schools. Depending on your son, Sequoia may also be a good fit, but they may not be accepting new students. Go check them all out and see what feel you get from them. Each of these schools is a public school and you can make an appt. for a tour.

Hi,
I am sorry to hear about your frustrations. Just to let you know, parts of Pleasant Hill/Lafayette are part of the Mt. Diablo school district which is bigger and has a little bit less of a budget, in comparison to the Lafayette Elementary School District. (The high school is in a different school district.)
