Please Recommend Good Cookware!! I'm Tired of Wobbly Pans!!

There is so much out there to choose from, especially since everyone from the Food Network has their own pans it seems.
I bought some (what I thought would be good quality) from Kohl's at Christmas and they SUCK.
The whole pan does not sit flat on my cooktop, and it spins around as you try to stir, unless you hold the handle. And of couse only the center gets hot.... so bacon burning in the center and raw on the edges. Love it, not......
I have one of those flat cooktops (I don't remember what they are called).
I just need some GOOD pans.
Thanks,
A.

Hands down All Clad for me. They are expensive but you get what you pay for.

I have been using the All Clad Stainless for about 6 yrs and they still look brand new. I love the way they cook as well. I paid about $120 for a small pot and then i paid about $600 for a set of 7 pots, etc. I LOVE them and they are worth every penny. You can also put them in the oven but I have not done that.

I also used my well seasoned cast iron that is about 20 yrs old as well. I love cast iron as well.

I have a white Kitchen Aid flat glass cooktop. It is 3 yrs old and still looks new because I clean it everytime I use it and I take good care of it.

Invest in good quality All Clad (not the cheap knock-offs) and you'll be happy.

There is no wobbly with the best All-Clad or cast iron.

I have an All-Clad set. I think they are nice. They were expensive but I have had them almost 10 years and they are in great shape.

Also, in case you don't already know this, as I didn't before ruining at least 2 decent pieces of cookware -- cool all pans before washing them! I have been known to take a pan off the stove and try to rinse it fast before anything could stick, and the change in temperature warped them. We have an awesome 2-burner griddle that is terribly wobbly now and slides off even grated burners. Sigh, learned my lesson.

My husband used to be a professional chef. When we married we got a set of annondized Calphalon and a set of All-Clad. We've since added different pieces of both -and my personal fave -Le Creuset. I also love good 'ol cast iron (Le Creuset is enameled cast iron)! Once you season it, it's a thing of beauty and durability forever. I was never on the super-expensive kitchenware bandwagon until I met my husband, but he made a believer out of me! There is a huge difference in quality cookware and the cheap stuff. You can also look around places like Tuesday Morning, Home Goods (or just the TJ Maxx housewares dept), outlets, etc. to get some deals. I got a huge, beautiful and very useful sautee pan by Cuisinart -stainless with a copper bottom -at Tuesday Morning for less than half of its retail price.

I dislike our Calphalon pots and pans because they're so heavy, but it sounds like that might be a good thing for your situation. They definitely don't spin. They do cook evenly and seem flat on the bottom (never had an issue in the 12 years we've had them). Again, I just find them heavy, but perhaps that's a good thing.

That seems to be a common problem with thinner bottomed pans on the glass top stoves. You might check what the stove manufacturers recommend so the bottom of the pans dont warp from heat. More reinforced, thicker ones work best. I had one of those stove tops before and didnt like it. I got rid of it after one pan rocked itself right off the edge and fell to the floor with hot food sizzling in it.

You should try Costco's Kirkland brand set. We've had ours for 2 years and I love them! They are a little on the heavy side but are flat and provide even temp throughout the pans. It's a large set that covers all your pot and pan needs and is about $150. I highly recommend it.

My cousin has a flat cook top and uses stainless steel pans with a heavy bottom. The reason your pans spin is probably because the bottom is thin and warps with heat. I've read that the best ones have a separate section attached to the bottom. Mine have a seam about 1/4" from the bottom of the pan.

Here is a web site that describes cookware and how to know quality.

I've been using Cuisinart pots and pans for about a year and a half.

I bought my set on Amazon, after looking at many brands and reading about a gazillion customer reviews. They weren't cheap, but I followed the price every day for a couple of weeks so I could watch it go up and down, and when it seemed sufficiently "down" I ordered it. It was still an investment, but I plan to use these until I'm at least ninety, and I've been extremely pleased with them. (The only thing I needed that didn't come in the set was a very small saucepan for warming milk or poaching eggs; I found one of those on Amazon, too, from another company. And I've kept my iron skillets because I simply can't live without them.)

Some might think the pans rather heavy, but that doesn't bother me; I used Pyrex Visions cookware until they stopped making it, and I like the weight.

Go with Cuisinart! LOVE all their products! I actually brought a new pot from Macys its a 5.5 qt stainless steel, got it for only $20! LOVE it! Another thing I will say is give other brands a try, I still have basic t-fal pans that work great too but you gotta becareful not to scratch the bottom otherwise its a throw away! Good luck!

We have Calphalon Contemporary. LOVE it. It's guaranteed for life. We have had it for almost 3 years. I have already brought one piece back to Bed Bath and Beyond, because my Mom burned corn in it...some of the non-stick burned off...no questions asked. I have a glass top as well. I know what you mean when they spin around. I will be honest...the largest frying pan does spin a little...I think it's the nature of the beast...the stove top...not the cookware. Good luck.

Calphalon, All-Clad, or Emeril. They are all I buy...and since I have bought pieces (or an entire set) from these, I haven't bought anything else. I received a stainless set of Emeril from my folks for Xmas about 7 years ago. And I bought my own Calphalon and All-clad fry pans (non-stick type) to add some flexibility (My Emeril ware isn't the nonstick type he has available now).

Nothing else I have seen elsewhere compares. My SIL got some Paula Dean stuff at Xmas, but it doesn't seem to me like it will last the test of time. I full expect to be able to still be using some of it when I have grandkids running around---and that (I hope) will be a long while yet. My oldest is only 13.

I got a really nice set at Costco but what you describe sounds like a stove issue.

I am a food snob so I would put just as much on a good cook top than just cookware. Even the crappiest pot will not do what you are describing on my stove.

You can't go wrong with Calphalon or Cuisinart. I also have some cookware named COOKS that came from JCPenney. I have had a set of this for about 4 years and love it.

We've had Calphalon pans for the last 15 years and they are great. Most of their lines have a lifetime warranty. I paid what seems like a small fortune for them at the beginning, but I've only had to buy them once. When my non-stick coating starts to wear off, I send it in through their warranty system and a couple of weeks later, I get a new pan in the mail. I have to do this about every 2-3 years with their non-stick stuff for the pans we use every single day (we cook a lot though and I'm a stay at home mom, so that includes lunch). For the pans I don't use every day, they have lasted about 6 years. Then I send them back and get a brand new updated one for only what I pay in shipping. Calphalon is a great company and I couldn't be happier with their cookware.

A good stainless steel set without the inside coating. Think about it this way you use these pans daily so you should spend around $300 or so for them as they are going to be with you for years.

The heavy bottoms mean you don't have to use high heat to cook because the base distributes the heat evenly. Anything burned in the pot/pan can be removed with a little warm soapy water or a scaring pad. They look great and are nice and shiny.

I've had other brands and they have been coated and enameled but I like the stainless steel the best. I even have a pot or two that I use to make homemade soap in. All the leftover soap residue comes out and they are ready to use again.

You get what you pay. This case more is better than less and thin bottomed.

The other S.

I see you've already bought cookware but one thing you need to watch. If you run cold water into a hot pan, it will warp the bottom just enough to wobble.

I've had great success with T-Fal. I had some for years, it got so beat up. Last year I bought a new set a Kohl's and it is great. And I have the flat cooktop and don't have a wobbling problem.
