________________________ . (Please finish the sentence.) I am shopping around for a stainless steel side by side (counter depth) refrigerator. I have heard a few bad things about a couple of brands so I want to see what you ladies think. I currently have an Amana and loved it for the first 5 yrs. now at 7 yrs. old, the veggies always freeze in the veggie compartment... no matter what I have the setting on.) Anway... I don't see Amanas anymore ... I think it's all under Whirlpool now. I will be putting my Amana (white one) downstairs in the laundry room. We are getting new appliances since we are getting the kitchen remodeled.

Please respond and if you have time to type WHY you like your refridgerator so much, I'd love to read about that too. And... for any of you who would like to comment on a bad experience on a refrigerator purchase.... I am all ears too!

Oh... and my kids are old enough for me to get a stainless steel. (Some moms have tried to sway me away from the stainless steel because of fingerprints, but I think at 8 yrs. old, my kids won't have many problems with it.

Thanks so much fellow moms!

We just got a Kenmore Elite side by side stainless one about a month ago. LOVE IT! My hubby did TONS of research on consumer reports and other websites that had ratings, and this one was highly recommended. I don't remember the model number, but it is the one that has the screen on the icemaker that you can write on or put your memory stick in to show pics.
PS - I have 2 neighbors who got "french" ones with the freezer on the bottom and say it does not fit nearly as much and is really hard to organize, so I stayed away from that one - my freezer is always packed and I can't lose any space!

Kenmore. And I have a story about it: we went to get a new fridge right before I went to the hospital to get my cancer removed. Almost one year!!! Brought a stupid refrigerator home and didn't work! Went back with the refrigerator and found my beloved new one. I sat on the floor, at the Sears outlet, in pain but thanking God we found it so I wouldn't worry about my family or anything. And because it had a teensy dent we got a beautiful one for the same amount of money and I was able to come home, have the surgery the next day (cancer free woohoo!) and go home to my new refrigerator. We are now both almost one year new July 18. Hope that wasn't too boring.

Sub 0 is suppose to be a great brand.
I have a GE Profile side by side counter depth. The brand is o.k but the style is not. I HATE the side by side!!! I cannot fit anything in it, you cannot put a turkey in the refrigerator on Thanksgiving and by the time you put your milk, condiments, eggs and other grocery items in you have little room for leftovers or anything else. Food ends up getting stacked on top of other food and then you don't see it and then it goes bad before you use it. The produce drawers are small. The freezer is also very skinny and food ends up getting stacked and you cannot fit all size packages, such as a family pack of chicken legs. I would never again purchase a side by side refrigerator.

The only feature that I do like is the express defrost feature.

We have stainless steel and it is not a problem. I heard on t.v. that wiping it down with a small amt. of baby oil every now and then keeps it streak free. It works!!!

Good Luck

I have a GE profile that I am pretty happy with. It has the freezer on the bottom which I love but I believe they sell it in side by side as well. Both my SIL & MIL had the same Amana and both had to have something big replaced within the first five years. They both broke right after the warantee was up. So I would suggest not buying another Amana.

I had a top of the line Maytag and it died within 5 yrs. Maytag is no longer the "name" it used to be.

This Kitchen Aid is top of the line, no special frills, white, and I LOVE it. We've swithced out appliances to Kitchen Aid in my house.

my mother in law has a nice one, but I'm not sure of the brand. It's one that has the french doors and the freezer on the bottom. The best part about it is there is a little alarm if the doors aren't shut all the way, which I think is great if you have kiddos around.
