Please Tell Me More About Fibroids Found on Your Uterus?

I have been bleeding for 4 months straight now. We don't have health insurance. No pain, just bleeding thank god. None the less for 4 months it's been long enough.

I went to the doctor today and they did a pelvic exam and found a fibroid which is a muscle growth in my uterus which is also enlarging my uterus. The next step is getting an ultrasound to actually see it and find out if theres more then one and the size of the fibroid. After that assessment comes a biopsy, and then who knows.

My question have any of you been through this?

What can I do next?

Hi, I had fibroids and I underwent a procedure called Endometrial ablation. It was done as an outpatient procedure. I had it done 3-4 yrs ago, and still I do not have menstrual periods or the pain that I was having. Here is a link that explains more about the procedure. You may want to enquire with your Dr.

I've had two fibroids on my ovaries. The first one was not cancerous but they removed my ovary anyway just to be sure. I was only 18 years old. The second fibroid I had on my last remaining ovary did end up being cancerous. They removed the fibroid and my ovary. Luckily they caught it very early and I did not have to have any further treatment. That was 10 years ago. I was not having ANY pain or symptoms at all either time. In both cases the doctor discovered them during an annual exam. I can't stress enough the importance of getting it checked out and resolved quickly. If it is cancer, the sooner they find it the better. We thought about waiting on the second surgery and having a child since it was my only remaining ovary and we had no children. But the doctor did not reccomend that. It was dificult at the time but it was the right decision. Not only was the doctor able to catch it early but we were also blessed with a wonderful son through adoption.
Good luck. I hope everything turns out alright.

Hi C.,

I went through a similar experience myself. I had heavy, painful, two-week-long periods for 5 years. Every month it was the same. Because my husband is in the military and we moved, I saw three different doctors and started the whole process over several times. I had ultrasounds, biopsies, etc. One doctor recommended an ablation. Basically, that's when they cauterize the lining of your uterus and it significantly cuts down on bleeding. Some women stop having periods altogether. Anyway, I never got that done because we had moved yet again. And still no one had told me why this was happening. The last time we moved, I found an excellent doctor who quickly diagnosed my problem as being fibroids. He said mine was the size of a grapefruit and he suggested hysterectomy. To be honest, it's what I wanted all along so I was relieved to finally find someone who agreed with me. This may not be the solution for you so don't be alarmed. The ablation may still be an option for you. You didn't mention if it's happened before so yours may not be as big or troublesome as mine was. The fact that yours isn't painful may mean just that. Just be sure to follow up with your doctor. I know it's difficult without insurance, but your health is important so follow your doctor's advice. Just ask lots of questions and if you're uncomfortable with the answers, get a second opinion.

Good luck!

Yes C., I also have had fibroids large and small for 25 years with heavy bleeding lasting 2 weeks, occurring every 2 weeks. At first it was treated with the pill. I went through infertility treatments and was told that I probably would never get pregnant. Well, finally after 7 years, I conceived and gave birth to a healthy baby boy..who by the way is now 15 years old. 1 1/2 years ago, My periods got even worse, so the md recommended a uterine ablation and removal of left ovary. I had the surgery. It has been a real blessing! I no longer have a period, cramps, anemia, blood stains on sheets or clothes. I highly recommend the procedure if you are finished with childbearing. Good Luck!

I haven't been through it but my mother has...and still is. She isn't getting the proper treatment that you are though. That's good that you are! Have them taken care of now. My mother is in her early 50's now and looks like she's carrying twins b/c of all the fiberoids she has. I will be praying that it's only the one and they can take care of it for you! Good luck and keep us posted! :)

BTW- Not having insurance, I know, is rough. In my area we have 2 free clinics that can help with that though, luckily. Have you searched your area for any?
