Gas. I had electric at the last place we lived and didn't like it as much. It took a lot longer to boil water.
Hello Mama's Just curious as to which one use and Love. I have used an electric stove for as long as I can remember.
Gas. I had electric at the last place we lived and didn't like it as much. It took a lot longer to boil water.
I have electric smooth top cook top and like that but gas is better to regulate and I guess most professionals like it better for that reason. I hated gas for one reason and that was when I had little kids and at that time the controls were on the front where kids could get to them. That was not safe. Now I guess they are up higher too. I think electric takes much longer to heat up and that I do not like.
GAS baby.
Have you ever seen a chef cook with ELECTRIC? NOPE...you haven't and for GOOD reason. Gas is MUCH more controlable unlike electric.
Gas. More control, it's off when you turn it off, can light it manually if power goes out.
I have an electric but prefer gas. I think gas is better at alternating temperatures and when it is off, it is off. With my electric stove, the low setting is really too warm. For this reason, I use a rice cooker instead of a stove to make rice and I use a crock pot for beans instead of the stove. I can't make either of these items on my electric stove without them turning out disgusting.
I have a gas double oven and a gas cook top.
When we first move here the stove and the double ovens were electrric. I have a gas heater and had an electric water heater. The gas company in this area has a minimum charge for being hooked up to gas. I was paying the minimum amount for 6 or 7 months each year. Thatr meant I was wasting money every time I didn't use enough gas to rise above the minimums. Now I'm above the minimums every month and I figure I'm saving at least $75-$100 per year every year. I've already paid for the appliances. The best part is that it so much better cooking with gas instead of electricity.
Good luck to you and yours.
I have gas. I had electric in all of my residences up until this most recent house purchase. It took me some time to get used to cooking on a gas stove. I burned things. Now that I am used to it, I think it is great. That said, I wouldn't have a problem going back to electric. No preference for me. My husband, however, prefers gas.
Gas! I love the instant control of the heat.
gas... :) I've had both - I prefer gas...but it's gotta be the oldschool ones that you can still light when the power is out - that way we can have hot cocoa if there's no electricity. My reasoning would have to be based on chocolate in some form or fashion - go figure. :p
electric - hate it. you can't warm tortillas or roast peppers without a flame.
i LOVE my electric stove. If i go to my parents and try to cook there or anywheres where it is a gas stove, i will burn everything bc of the heat difference. so i vote electric!!
I move a lot and cook a lot. I have lived with many different stove/oven types. If I were building a house or remodeling a kitchen, I would, without a doubt get a gas stove top. More control, instant on/off/temp adjust. I would get the kind with sealed burners to make cleaning easier. My absolute least favorite type is the glass top cooking surface. HATE them!!! They require two hands to stir a pot (the pot spins on them) and they are very difficult to keep clean. Splatters are directly on the cooking surface and cook on - requiring a lot of elbow grease and chemicals to scrub them clean. They also show every spot/streak/crumb/grain of salt. Arrrgh! (Can you tell that's what I have now?) As much as I love cooking with gas, most of the houses I have lived in have had electric stoves. I have never gotten used to cooking with them. I am intrigued by the Induction Cooktops. It seems they have the qualities of gas. I am still wary of that glass top, though. I would be interested to try one.
For an oven, I would have double wall ovens. Electric convection/conventional ovens. I often have a need to cook two (or more) things at different temperatures. I love the flexibility of the two ovens and the convection is great for even baking.
I LOVE my gas stove. I've had both, and when I had electric, I've had both smooth and coil tops. The best is always gas. It allows you to have INSTANT heat that is also instantly controlled. No waiting for adjustments.
I also have a dual fuel oven, which means I can use the gas for convection or broil under the electric element. Also AWESOME.
We have gas and I am terrified of electric stoves. I don't think I would be able to figure it out!
gas and I hate it! But we don't have a big enough fuse box to add a 220 v outlet for the electric one sitting in our garage.
I've had both and like different things about each of them.
Gas: Easy to maintain temp you want; oven heats up quickly and bakes more evenly; easy to start when electric is out - great heat source too if you are without heat; more expensive to run.
Electric: Prefer smooth top for look and ease to clean; have an old coil one now and it heats water is seconds! It's old so maybe it has more to do with that - but it doesn't bake well. It heats up higher than the gauge says.
I don't like electric range tops, they smoke and are just nasty looking. I love gas tops so I can scrub them if something dribbles. I also like the look of gas tops due to just looking homey.
As for baking, I really really don't notice any difference.
I have a flat-top electric. I've only ever lived in 1 place that had gas & that was for a few months only. I didn't love it nearly as much as I love my whirlpool!
have old electric unit that came with the house - it really will need to be replaced in a few years...
hope to get at least gas cooktop (even tho on propane right now - no problem, so's the grill!) and would love double ovens, but would settle for even a single wall oven!
@B - please tell me that they do NOT bury propane tanks in your area!!
Gas. It took me some time to get used to cooking on it but I do love it!
Electric is what we have.
What I would LIKE is a gas range, and an electric oven.
I grew up with a gas stove and I took it for granted :( I've had electric ever since and I don't like it. Sure wish I had a gas!
Gas stove - hands down, no question in the world better than electric. I have an industrial Viking without sealed burners, so it is harder to clean. I would buy it again in an instant.
I have electric and it suits me fine.
Gas doesn't come down our street and the only way to get it out here would be to buy a large propane tank to bury in the back yard and have it filled up once a year.
Only one place we lived in growing up had a gas range.
The kitchen walls/ceiling tends to get sooty quickly when you've got a flame burning a lot of the time.
You end up painting your kitchen more often.
Perhaps with cleaner gas this no longer happens.
We have electric double wall ovens and a gas cooktop. We just remodeled our kitchen last fall and before that I had a regular oven/stove combo (electric). I love our gas cooktop, it is so much easier to cook with.
I have both, duel fuel. I hate electric cook tops and I hate gas ovens. So my cook top is gas and the oven is electric.
I love it!
I've used both. Here's what I'd recommend...
If you're big into cooking, gas is really nice. However shop around for stoves, some have such a high grille that you nearly get sun burned standing over the stove. My mom's has about 1.5 inches between the flame and the bottom of the pot. My grandma's had about 3 inches, and it was miserable to cook over - especially in the summertime. :)
If you use electric, get a glass top. They're SO MUCH easier to clean!!!!!!!!! That is what I have now and LOVE it.
Unfortunately electric in this house. I prefer and love to cook with gas. I love to cook and electric just doesn't do it for me. Hopefully, the next house we rent will have gas.
