Ground coffee beans. Place a dish of them in the bathroom.
It works for skunk smell, it will work on poo! Lol
We came home from a two week vacation to find someone had left poo in the potty. The smell is pretty bad. How can I get rid of the smell? I've cleaned the potty with bleach toilet cleaner and also poured bleach and let it sit for an hour or so. Any other ideas? We've been home one day.

You need to open windows and air out the house.. If you have rugs on the floor?? wash them...curtains? wash them...anything that can retain smells - wash - towels, wash cloths, etc.
Turn the fan on in the bathroom too...if there is a window there? open it.
the only thing that will work?? is opening up the house and letting fresh air in!! GOOD LUCK!!!
Light a match in the bathroom. Let it burn for about 10 seconds. That should take care of it.
It's not the toilet. It's the air not just in the bathroom but in the hall and nearby rooms. The poop doesn't penetrate the porcelain of the bowl! Open the windows and, if necessary, put a fan in the window.
Stop with the bleach! Yikes, it's so toxic. Pour about 1/2 cup of baking soda in the bowl. Let it sit. Swish it around with a toilet brush, scrubbing if there's any staining in the bowl. Flush. Put another 1/2 cup of baking soda into the bowl and let the brush sit in it for 30 minutes. Flush while holding the brush in the water so it gets clean.
Leave 1/4 cup of baking soda in each of 4 little plastic dishes in the bathroom and perhaps the hall.
If you don't have baking soda, clean the bowl with plain white vinegar.
You need to air out the house. Leave the exhaust fan on over night and see if that helps.
I would not continue to use harsh cleaners or you can get every one sick.
Try baking soda and see if you can leave it out in the sun for awhile.
Oxyclean might be good to try too.
You can also try a pet cleaner with enzymes - that seems to be pretty good with eliminating smells.
It sat for 2 weeks so soak it in a cleaner for at least a few days.
If you've flushed and scrubbed, the smell is not the toilet. I suggest burning a few matches and then opening the window to air it out awhile.
I'm assuming the whole house smells from that. I would pour bleach in the toilet, get a bleach tablet for the toilet tank, burn some odor-absorbing candles like they make for smokers, Febreeze all carpets and every fabric surface that can't be washed, wash everything else possible, and open the windows even if you have the air conditioning on. Replace your air filter too, as that will also hold the stink.
Gag. Note to self: check all toilets before leaving on vacation. Good luck.
Pick up the cleaner called "CLR" and wash the toilet down with that.
Open every window you can and turn on any fans you have to air things out. All those things like Febreeze or scented candles or whatever don't get rid of the smell, they just mask the smell with an even stronger smell and are horrible to be breathing in.
I would put a bowl of baking soda in the bathroom. You could also go to the pet store and buy some activated charcoal which is used in fish tanks. Put a bowl of it in the bathroom and anywhere else around the house to absorb the odor.
eeee, that's a lot of bleach. the smell is in the air, not the toilet at this point, so just ventilate and use an air freshening spray for a few hours.

It is in the air. Open the windows and turn on fans. Get fresh air in the house and put out some baking soda on small plates.
The air needs to be changed out then it should dissipate. You could also just have a sensitivity to it right now. You can smell it strongly because your nose is....looking to smell it. So each time someone does their business it compounds this smell you already had.
You can spray an odor killer like OdoBan. It smells nice and is professional strength. When the dogs had an accident she would spray the spot with her pump spray bottle she made up almost weekly then she'd clean the spot with the SpotBot. Afterwards she'd mist the air. I never ever ever knew her aging dog had any accidents until I saw her clean one up. OdoBan did that good of a job.
We buy ours at Walmart or Lowes or some other home improvement place.
put some cat litter in it. and leave it sit for a couple of days. that might do it.
Put some baking soda in there or a Citrus Magic disk. Turn on the fan, close the door, and try not to use it for a while.
