Pooping on the Potty - Columbus,OH

My son is 2 1/2 and pees on the potty regularly. He stays dry through naps and pretty dry at night. He is wearing underpants during the day and a pull up at night. For some reason he will not poop on the potty. He has, he actually started doing that before he ever started peeing regularly. Now, he just wont do it and tells me he's not going to. I can tell when he has to go but if I attempt to get him on the potty he complains and will not let himself go?! Is there some kind of trick or do i just wait until it "clicks" for him? I try not to complain to him but it is rather frustrating!

What can I do next?

I've got the same problem with my 2 1/2 year old daughter. She's been potty training for almost 2 months now and doing pretty well with peeing and was making progress with pooping unil a month ago when she suddnely started refusing to poop and seems to dislike the "mess" it makes. I can't get her to understand that its "messier" in her underpants or pull-ups than it is in the potty but she doesn't seem to get it. I'm frustrated like you. Have you made any progress?

Boy seems like we are all in the same boat. My daughter is in underpants day and night but has not gone or 4 days now and dont know what to do. I finally had to put her in a diaper today to see if she will go in the diaper. I have no pull-ups as we ran out and she told me she did not need them anymore. LOL Guess I have to buy more again tomorrow. I started giving her apple juice today to see if maybe it will help her also. Please if anyone has advice HELP!!!! She has had a fever off and on for the last 2 days as well.

This may sound mean & gross, but when they poop in their diaper, make them help clean it up. My son was about 3, wore underwear all day but wore diapers for bed since he always wet. As soon as we got that diaper on he would be playing then disappear and poop. Well I made him help dump his poop in the toliet and would sit him up there and wipe his butt. He didn't like how it smelled (who does!!) when he had to dump the diaper and didn't like how it would smoosh on his butt. After about a week of this he was cured. It was rough, because it was much easier to clean him up on the changing table versus the toliet, but it helped show him where the poop goes and how it is not too scary to get hid butt wiped.

My friend who has a 2 1/2 yr old daughter uses candy or snacks. Every time she poops in the potty she will get 1 chocolate chip or 1 skittle or 1 candy corn. She is just starting the process with her but it seems to work wonders.
