Hi Moms,
I have a 3 year old who is outgrowing/has outgrown his pack n' play where he normally sleeps when we visit family. I am wondering what ideas you have to keep kids from rolling out of bed. Any portable bedrails that work or do not work? We tried to put him in a futon but he kept rolling out which made for a difficult night. Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for all the great ideas! I never thought to try a noodle or a rolled up towel/blanket. We haven't spent the night anywhere since my request but we are going to try the least expensive ideas first and then go from there. Thanks Moms!

I'm still dreading this with my guys, but a good friend of mine suggested just using a sleeping bag on the floor. It is much more fun for them, and then there aren't any transition issues if you go somewhere and all the beds are full :)

cheapest and easiest...wherever you visit buy a funoodle (long styrofoam toys for the pool) and put it under the bottom sheet/matress pad. This kept my son from rolling out and at the end of your trip just throw it out...one less thing to lug around/transport

L.,

I bought a portable one when my kids were little...I don't remember if it was from The Right Start or Toys R Us...but it was great! We used it for years without a problem.

We only bought one; if we were at a hotel where we needed protection on 2 sides, we put the bedrail on one side (of a double or queen sized bed) and two chairs on the other, and then placed the child closer to the side with the bedrail.

Good luck!

I don't know of any portable bed rails. But I wanted to let you know that when we moved my son out of his crib he never had a bed rail. He was in captains bed (low to the floor)after a couple of falls he stayed in bed. No one in my family ever used bed rails and we are all fine. If there is a health consern, let him "camp out" on the floor with blankets and pillows.

I believe O. Step Ahead sells a portable bed rail. Check out their catalog or website.

Hi L. - I bought both the inflatable bolters & the hide-away bed rails that fold down. The hide-away rails have mesh that my son enjoyed poking his fingers through, but the infaltable bolsters worked great!

If you put a futon mattress straight on the floor, it probably wouldn't be so bad. But - if you want portable bedrails, look here:

These are inflatable, which would make them very portable. And you can get them to accommodate a toddler, twin or full bed (regular size) OR Queen/King. I plan to get this for my daughter, when she's ready for her big girl bed. (Don't have it yet, so can't offer review).

We use on areobed for kids and it is great. It has a little recessed area in the middle of the bed so it is tougher to roll out. The bed is nice and portable and our daughter loves it. We had to order it online as the stores do not seem to carry it but it was well worth it.
