We are looking for a portable DVD player for my young children and I feel like there are mixed reviews on all of them. I kind of like the idea of a rotatable screen, so that the buttons wouldnt be so appealing to push, but other than that I dont know what is important featurewise. Are there brands that are better than others? Important features I should be looking for? I would like one with decent battery life, but how do I know what that is without actually buying them? Is a USB port a good option?

Any and all info/advice is welcomed! Thanks!!

What can I do next?

No matter what you get, keep the receipt!! I have had a couple burn out from the heat of leaving them in the car. I have the Panasonic now and a lot of moms I know have it too. Basically, get whatever is on sale. They are always on sale for black friday too. Also, if you can afford it, I would HIGHLY recommend the iPad. This way you can download movies and then they will be on it. Also, it has a longer battery life. The best part of it though is you can download all types of free educational games. It is awesome and I take it everywhere! Moms stop me all the time and ask where I got it, what it is. They are shocked when I tell them the iPad. Plus, I have books on there for them too. Really at Free or 1.99 a download (I don't pay over that) it can't be beat!!

Don't bother with the rotatable screen. Your kids will be so engrossed in the movie they won't push the buttons (or at least, that's what happened with my kids). We have 9" white Phillips ones and I love them. Yiu van find them at best buy. Get the longest battery life you can because none of them live up to the claims. If you get one with only two hours of life, in a month or two you'll have barely an hour.

The Sony one has been great for us. We chose it because of battery life.

I can't wait to see what answers you get. I bought one that has 2 units and I've had to keep the unit with the buttons with me and hand my son the other one because he won't stop pushing the buttons. Yes he is engrossed in the movie but he can't stop pushing the buttons!! I also have a unit that is just a player by itself. With that one he keeps shutting it off and now his big thing is opening the player and taking out the dvd. He has already ruined a couple of dvd's and I'm not holding out hope that the dvd player is going to last long. So my advice is don't spend a lot of money because chances are it is going to get ruined. Oh, and I have a flip video which plugs into the usb port and my son pulled it out of the usb port and managed to ruin it. I may just have the most destructive little one out there but it wasn't a good option for me.
Good luck!
