Has anyone had to use nutramigen for their infant? I think my 2 month old has a milk allergy, she hasn't been diagnosed by a dr yet. She is on zantac for acid reflux and a rice starch formula (which i don't think she needs to be on). I'm thinking about switching her due to the issues I am having with her. She is always fussy and crying barely sleeps past two nights have been horrible she usually sleeps 6-9 hours at night ( that is after hours of trying to get her to bed), but last night she got maybe 3 all night if i was holding her she slept but the minute i would put her down she would wake up crying/screaming!! I am going crazy from sleep deprivation. Help!

What can I do next?

I used it for my daughter, but she had a diagnosed milk protein and soy allergy. I had to stop breastfeeding because her allergy was so bad, no matter how hard I tried to change my diet she was still having reactions to something. She is now almost 28 months old and has fully outgrown her allergies.

You can always relactate and breastfeed... even when infants have reflux/mil allergy/gas, it isn't as harsh with breastmilk as it will be with formula.

Co-sleeping and breastfeeding is a great match made in heaven too.

I have a VERY colicky 2 month old and all day he's fussy, gassy, sometimes not happy... but at night when we go to bed - he sleeps wonderfully and only wakes 2-3 times a night to nurse, never to fuss or cry.

is she constipated?? her reflux seems bad and is more comfortable in an upright position. try having her in a swing or her carseat to sleep. my daughter couldnt handle certain formulas and as a last effort we tried good start and it was a winner. my ob said if that didnt work then she would need nutramigen.
have your dr do a blood allergy test for milk. or just try a soy formula.

My mom loves to tell the story of what a horrible baby I was. Colicky and cried all the time. She probably pretty much hated me, lol. She put me on goat milk and solved the problem when I was about 5 mos old, so she says. Not sure if that's still an option in this day and age.
My youngest was a projectile spitter upper, but he wasnt in any pain and continued to gain weight, I never put him on reflux drugs, we just weathered it till his sphincter matured enough to finally hold the breast milk.

I used it. It was good. Makes their poops really runny. It didn't make her sleep thru the night however. They go thru times like this. You are very lucky if you had a 2 mos old sleeping 9 hours at night. I would say that was a fluke, and now you are into what most of them are like. It could be teething too. Teething pain gets worse when they are on their backs. Check with your doc. You can get things in their beds that are slanted to help with reflux I think.

BTw, don't give her goat milk yet. They need formula until age 1. I gave mine goat milk starting at age 11 mos (close enough I figured).

nutramigen saved my life--- it gave me back my son! he was diagnosed at 4 months with milk allergy. he was always constipated & in pain, had severe acid reflux, always fussy, and barely slept. plus, he was really lethargic because of the allergy :( within 2 days, he was a totally new baby. give it a shot! it's hypoallergenic, so there's nothing to lose :) (alot of babies with milk allergies are also soy sensitive, so steer clear till you know) good luck!

My daughter had acid reflux and I can not eat lots of thing since I am breast feeding..

1. We give her her meds before we feed her her bottle (I pump and give her bottles as I can not get her to latch well.

2. keep her upright for 30-45 mins after feedings.

3. Check with the doc, maybe the dose on the meds needs to be adjusted. once we adjusted my daughters she went from barley gaining .5 ounce a day to 1.5 ounces a day at time. makes a huge difference.

Good luck sleep deprivation sucks

All five of my children had milk allergies when they were babies. I have to stay completely away from ALL dairy while I'm breastfeeding. I'm not sure what to do with formula. But watch out for soy because some babies can't handle soy either. Keep trying different ones until you find one that works. That would be my suggestion. I wish you the best. Good luck to you and congratulations!!
