Post-Surgery Gift Ideas

Hey ladies!

A friend of mine watches my daughter once a week and her husband just had surgery. He won't be able to put weight on his leg for 12 weeks! So, I wanted to get him a little something. I don't actually know him too well (in regard to his personal interests, etc.), but their family is very good to my daughter and treat her like part of the family when she's there. Money is tight, but I want to spare something for him. I got him a card and I was thinking a gift card to a video store... Anything more appropriate or fun or thoughtful than that?

Thanks!

Is there anything around the house you could offer to do for him? Like rake leaves or trim the bushes, shovel snow (didn't look what area you're in). That's free and helpful. You could always drop off a freezer meal, like lasagna. Even if mom is the cook, I'm sure it will still be hard to prep meals without his help. Otherwise, I think books, puzzles and movies are always good.

My neighbors husband had surgery on his shoulder. We brought them a home cooked meal. Beef tips and noodles, salad and dinner rolls and cake for dessert. They really appreciated it and liked that they didn't have to worry about dinner.

Since he will probably be less helpful around the house, maybe a food basket to make spaghetti or something to give everyone a break for a night or a couple home cooked meals that can be kept for a few days or frozen.

Hi C.,

I think a gift card to a movie store or a restaurant would be great. The restaurant card can be used "to-go" and I'm sure his wife will appreciate it too. :0)

Given that he can't be up an around, I'd say a video gift card is a great idea.

Everyone gave good ideas! What about flowers. I know it may sound too simple, but flowers brighten up anything. Or a nice box of chocolates or other candy, something a little different that he usually wouldn't buy. If you bake you could bring brownies, cupcakes, cookies, bread, pie, etc.
