my son is twenty months old now, and we are working on potty training him.he lets us know when he has to go potty when he is naked but when we put him on the potty he starts to go and grabs himself like he shouldn't be doing it. I'm not sure why he would do that, because he gets rewarded and we clap when he is done. is there something i should try different with him then i did with my daughter. she was potty trained by 21 months old. thank you.

What can I do next?

He may be too young to understand the enitre process... I prefer to wait until boys are older than 2.5 to start training because of their maturity level. My oldest is 5.5 and he was not trained until 4 and my middle son just turned 4 and he was trained at 3.5 my youngest just turned 2 and I wont start trying until 3 unless he decides to do it on his own...

Good luck

I would forget the potty training until he's older. Just because your daughter was trained super early doesn't mean your son is ready.

My son would only go potty when naked for almost a year. He is 3 1/2 now and he has only been potty trained for a month. They say boys are harder and I believe it. My son would also grab himself when he sat down to potty then daddy taught him how to stand up to pee and he thought that was more fun and wanted to do that. Maybe this might help you. Give him time. Literally one day my son asked for underwear and never went back to diapers. HTH Good Luck to you!

TAke it slow and don't rush him. He's proably not ready. Boy's tend to take longer than girls. My older son wasn't potty trained til about 3 1/2-4 and complete trained at night til he was about 6 or 7. Now my younger son is just now showing interest and is 3 1/2.

I would not stress over it.
Hope this helps.

You might want to throw a fruit loop in the potty. My son had a great time aiming at things. My son didn't train until 2.5 because we travel A LOT and I didn't want to start until I could devote a week to training. He also enjoyed peeing off the back porch. I'm sure some would disagree, but as far as I'm concerned...whatever works! :)

Blessings!

Take it slow. If he wants to go then let him go. My son will be 3 in January and he has just now in the last month gotten potty trained. Although the pooping thing is still an issue. Everyone I have talked says that boys take a lot longer than girls. So be patient with him and don't rush it. He may not be completely ready yet.

Good Luck.
My daughter will be next...(she's only 7 mos. old) But I'm hoping she goes faster than my son does!
