Boys have a more difficult time controlling their bowels than girls do. The other posters are right, if you're not careful, you can end up with a resistant potty trainer. Mine was almost 4 years old because of pushing too hard.
This is a great link on it and suggestions on how to avoid it.

I also agree with the other people who responded that you cannot expect a two-year-old (especially a boy) to be potty trained. My kids' daycare facility/preschool which starts at 15 mos. old and goes up to 5 1/2 years old, will change diapers and/or poopy underwear all the way through, so there are places out there where you do not have to worry about it too soon.

I'm telling you that if you push too hard, it will backfire on you. He has to go at his own pace with encouragement from you. My 4 1/2 year old son has had the peeing down for at least a year now, but we're having big problems with pooping in his underwear. Now I'm getting really worried about him stopping in time for Kindergarten in the Fall. On the other hand, his twin sister started training herself before she was 2 years old. She was potty trained pretty quickly, so it has been hard to deal with my son and the comparisons. They are just totally different, and boys almost always take longer.

I honestly didn't even worry about potty training my son until he was about 2 1/2 and when he finally showed some interest in it. I also did offer little treats if he would go in the potty, and we even used those piddler things in the toilet that he could aim at.

I would check around for a place that will change diapers and help potty train him. Good luck.

It's ridiculous that they expect a 2yr. old to be potty trained!
Find another day care. They should change diapers at that age.
Where are you located?

My son just turned 3 and is just now potty trained. I started with him at 18 months and he kept resisting. Finally a little while ago he told me he wanted to wear big boy undies and has been in them ever sice. For a boy 2 is very young to be potty trained. My son would refuse to go potty the more I pushed it. He has to want to do it on his own too. I would just ask him if he can go potty and if he refuses - then just leave it at that. I finally stopped pushing for about a month and he did it on his own. Just ask him frequently, but don't demand that he do it. I don't know a whole lot of people that have had their boys potty trained before 2 or even at 2. If they are potty trained then they usually have an older sibling to model after. Good luck!

Oh Gawd I remember those times. Potty training for me was the worst part of being a mom, forgive me, but it was. I got so frusterated with my son and boys are the worst to potty train. It took almost a year. I found a school that said they help them but yet he still went to school in pull ups, so when I took him to the military base they said NO PULL UPS> I freaked out but he learned in a week and now he very very rarely has accidents. At home when I was teaching him I would ask him all day if he had to go potty. I would read to him on the potty, make it fun, give him treats, all kinds of stuff, but I have to say when he really learned is when he went to his school that didn't allow pull ups so he had no choice. He still wears a pull up at night and doesn't always poop in the potty so we are still working on it. Hope that helps and wish you well

I have to agree with Gigi- a daycare shouldn't expect a 2 year old to be potty trained yet. I know you can't enter public preschool without potty training, but the children have to be at least 3 years and 8 months for that anyway...

Boys are different than girls, but my daughter will be 3 in april, and she just now hit paydirt on the potty training. We've been doing it for months, and one day, she wanted to wear her big girl Ariel panties (little mermaid) and off she went. She did it all by herself. We were shocked. Just hang in there, and when he is ready, he'll get it. You can't force it, or he'll continually resist. I found a website with some good tips, and reward charts- www.pottyscotty.com or www.pottypatty.com. Good luck!

This is a really tough topic... My 3 1/2 yr old son still isn't potty trained and absolutely refuses to even sit on the potty without clothes on...?? We have been at wits end trying to get him to go potty. Most of his friends are wearing big boy underwear now too, but doesn't phase him at all! Even the bribing didn't work (stickers, prizes, fruit snacks). We're giving it a break for now with hopes that it will become "his idea" soon! I know each child develops at their own pace...some faster than others. I have also learned that when dealing with a strong willed child- it will almost always be at their pace! :( My husband and I keep joking that his 9 1/2 month old brother will be using the potty before he will. Good luck to you!

In my Nursery school in London ( I ran it through the 80's) they had to be potty trained ... at the age of 3 years plus!
Never heard of it for day care.
Sorry you are desperate to put him in day care
and sorry to have to tell you - you cant run things like this to any timetable, except what he is ready for.
Put him and his individual development first. He needs your commitment and your patience - in everything.

My first son was around 3 years old when he decided he wanted to go potty. He seemed to potty train overnight (with help from day care) and was potty trained by his 3rd birthday. My second son, however, was not even close to being that easy! My second son is autistic and non-verbal, so he couldn't tell me that he needed or wanted to go the bathroom. I tried everything, sticker chart, rewards, and such, but to no avail. He wasn't interested and at 3-1/2, I was getting at my wits end changing dirty pull ups! But I spoke to a family member who is around my age and she gave me some great advice. She said that kids know that pull ups are practically diapers and why would a kid stop playing and use the potty when they are used to going in diapers and pull ups and they can continue to play? She said she took away her son's pull ups and put him in underwear, so that he could feel the wetness that a pull up doesn't. Well, I took her advice and after a few accidents, he started to understand. I also set a timer and ask him to go potty every hour. Even if he didn't need to go, I had him sit there for a couple of minutes so that he would be accustomed to sit on the potty. It worked! Now, I don't even have to remind him - he just goes on his own. I'm happy to say that we have been accident-free for months! You might want to look into a different day care as well because there are day care places that will help with potty training and they will help you with consistency. I know the day care that I put my first child in helped alot. Whatever you choose, good luck!
