Hi!
I'm looking for a potty for my nearly 2 year-old daughter. I know this is mainly a matter of personal preference, but I'd like to find out from you, ladies, what potty has worked for you. I'm looking for something compact (my bathroom is small), good quality, no frills necessary! I prefer my daughter to have her own potty, rather than one that fits into ours. Thanks for your input!

Hi, I have an almost 3yr old son, and I have never used a potty with him, I bought the little toilet seat for kids ... you put it on the actual seat of the toilet and i put it whenever he needas to go.....I'm still in training, but personally I think it makes them feel more independent when they see themselves using the same toilet mom and dad uses.Hope I was helpful....I am a working mother of 2 ...34mth boy, and 16mth girl....hands are real busy...but loving every minute. Good luck with the training

My daughter absolutely loves her flip n flush! I saw it in the ads at the back of a parenting magazine. Since we have a small bathroom that the kids use, I wanted something that wouldn't get in the way. The only other thing you need is a step stool... which will be useful for handwashing and teethbrushing!

L.,

Hey I have purchased about four of these potty training potties and none have worked for us until I found the Fischer-price portable potty on the go...
It comes in a carrying bag and folds up compactly and you can take it with you in the car for easy use. Both my kids love it and it is very convenient. You can go to Target and buy little garbage bags, fold down the legs, lift the seat wrap in a bag, fold down the seat in it's locking position and when your daughter is all done throw it in the garbage. I keep wipes in the travel case, extra garbage bags, and antibacterial hand sanitizer. It's great for the park, before going into the stores, the beach, and for long road trips. I also put all my left over nursing pads in the case to drop in the bag when they would go peeps to absorb the fluid.
go to fisher-price.com because it's not sold in stores, I think it was $25 I bought mine from amazon with free shipping.

I also found a book at Barnes and Nobles that helped my kids called: Where's the Poop? They found it to be very funny.

I really like the baby Bjorn one. It's definately no frills which was what I wanted as well. It's easy to clean, looks great and comes in several different colors.

Well my advice would be to not get a potty at all. Instead buy a step stool and a special childs seat that goes over your toilet seat You can get them at Target or K-mart. My reasoning is this...I have a 4 year old and when she started potty training we had a potty. I found that it was messy and my daughter would want to empty it herself which was a total disaster. It ends up being such a chore to make sure it is clean and fresh after every use. For my second daughter who is potty training now at 2 we use the step stool and the seat cover that is shaped like a duck and she loves it. She gets up there by herself and loves to flush the toilet when she is done. I guess it is just cutting out the middle man right? Anyway hope this was helpful to you :)

My oldest did so well with the tiny flushing toilets they had at day care that he tracked one down from a plumbing supply store and installed it in our small bathroom. Super hero pants were a help too.

I really like the baby bjorn potty chair... comes in a bunch of different colors. It is comfortable, a nice size, easy to clean, and reasonably priced. Here is a link from amazon.com, if it doesn't work just go to amazon.com and type in baby bjorn potty chair.

Hope this helps :)

My son is 2 and I'm just using a kid sized Elmo toilet seat that sits on top of the regular toilet seat. I decided to use this instead of a traditional potty so I don't need to go through another transition from a potty to the regular toilet. I have one in each of my bathrooms so he can use it wherever he is in the house. I got them from Babies R Us, but someone told me thay have them at Walmart as well. Good luck!

Hi L.:

I am a grandma of a 21 month old, I suggested to my daughter-in-law two things, now that our princess is ready of her own accord, to find the book "Potty Trainning in less than a Day" (I too used this book years ago with my sons)while looking for the book I also suggested that she check out potties with the little angel as well and see where she would sit comfortably. Make it a fun experience. I know your space is limited; but you must remember if she doesn't like the potty she wont use it. This is all baout comfort and positiveness. Good luck, it is easier than most think. Always take your cue from her.

We have a safety 1st potty that we probably bought at target. Very basic, not the most compact, but very durable and can be used as a step stool. We also have the elmo padded seat that fits onto a regular toilet. My daughter started out on the training potty at a year, and moved to preferring the elmo potty seat because she wanted to be a big girl and use the big potty like mommy. So I turned the potty over and she was using it as a stool to get on the big potty(I have always had a separate stool for the sink). She was potty-trained before she was two, but she was very protective of her bathroom, she didn't want anyone to use her potty, and since her bathroom is also the guest bathroom that posed a problem when we would have company. She regressed for about a month when my newest baby was born 8 months ago, but we didn't make a big deal about it and she went back to panties of her own accord. Her friend across the street began potty training and got a Dora training potty(maybe smaller than the safety 1st, but I don't think it has the stool capability) which they kept in the play room and not the bathroom(another option) and my daughter fell in love with it and told me she wanted a little potty too. I flipped that stool over immediately and presented her with her very own little potty and so now she prefers the training potty. Ownership means alot to them at this age. If you get a plain potty you can help her decorate it with stickers.

Good luck and don't forget to get some "potty" books not just the ones about going to the potty, but ones about everything else that you can read together while she is sitting on the potty.
