Can anyone recommend a good parenting book how to potty train? I've read the one by Brazelton "Potty Training the Brazelton Way" and it was really informative, but just wondering what other 'methods' are out there. I don't think my daughter is ready yet -- not showing all the signs, but just wanted to prepare... thank you!

I used this method "3 day potty training" when my son was 22 months old to the day as thats what she suggests and IT WORKED! My son HATED getting his diaper changed and showed none of "the signs" for potty training but I was at whits end with the screaming matches and figured I did not really have anything to lose...but the diapers of course...lol. I had also watched my 3 sister in laws potty train their children which took them MONTHS...and most of their kids are still not night potty trained at 3, 4, and 5 years old. This method is yes intensive but it does work!!! I went into it thinking ok i'll do the day part but I'm not going to push the night time just yet after all he is still in a crib, well my husband said to me why not try whats a couple of sleepless nights in the big picture. So we did it all gun hoe and OMG it worked on night one!!! We did exactly what she says to do...and it all worked!!!!!!

Best of luck on this journey!!!

I used the three day potty training book. I love the method and he got the idea in three days, but actual potty training took a few weeks longer. Get the book but don't be discouraged if it takes longer than the promissed three days. Also get a gender specific book and read it to your daughter every night, my doctor suggested this and it made potty training my son's idea and got us rolling down the right path.

I don't know of a good book but you can get this potty watch from lillian and vervon and it works really good! you can set it to go off every 30, 60, or 90 min and it will light up and music will go off.. Get her favorite panties and tell her not to pee on them or they will cry and just be patient and don't give up. You will be surprised how quick she will catch on.

We've used quite a few. Our favorite is "Diapers are not forever" The library usually carries a few though and each child learns better from different books. Ask your librarian and try a new one each week. Even if she isn't ready it will get her more comfortable with the idea.

Hi-
There are a couple of books called "everybody Poops" and "Everybody Pees". There is also one called My first Potty. The pictures are colorful, with animals and people, and it lets kids know that not only is it okay to use the big potty, but that everyone does it and it isn't anything "weird".
I hope that helps!

I think it really depends on how old your daughter is. I used a bunch of great books to train my 18 month old. One of them was Early Start Potty Training.

I also started reading "Too big for Diapers" to my daughter around 15 months, and then, at 20 months (after two months of solid peeing in the potty but no poop), I bought "Everybody Poops." Now, at 22, she is trained. So If I was you, I'd start introducing the concepts to your daughter..get a potty, spend some time every morning reading to her on it, and then you go to the potty, etc. Teach her about wet and dry, etc. There is so much they need to learn to be fully potty trained, it's a process, so the sooner you start introducing the concepts, the better!

"Once Upon a Potty" for girls is a great book, and there is a DVD too, I used the one for boys for my toddler son, We found the book at the library and bought the DVD at Toys- R-Us it was a hit and we are fully potty trained now at 2 1/2, we started this process at 25 months old. We watched the DVD for a month or so before we started potty learning. The style of potty used in the video is a good one- easy to use and comfortable for learners
good luck, it s nice to be out of diapers

I'm still working with my 29 month old (she was first successful at going on the potty at 17 months, so we've been at this for quite a while). She loves the "Potty Power" and "Elmo's Potty Time" DVDs. My cousin got her Elmo's potty book for her birthday and we read that often. I also picked up some $1 potty books in Target's $1 area and she enjoys reading them while she's sitting on the potty. I've ordered the potty watch mentioned below, but got mine from One Step Ahead. It should be here any day so I'm not sure if it will work with her or not.

Oh, and I started introducing the concept of going on the potty at 1 year, so I'd say go ahead and get started.

Good luck! And just remember all kids are different. One may get it in a day, another over several months.

not a book, but my son really liked it: elmo's "potty time" dvd.
he watched it when he was 2 a couple times when he was training. one day he had an accident-he was trying to get to the bathroom but didn't make it in time. he was very grim about the whole thing, and i just said "accidents happen big boy, we'll try again later". he was very sober and walked to our dvd case and pulled out the dvd and gave it to me, then pulled his little chair up to the tv as if to say "i need a little more coaching". it was kinda funny. i was a little concerned that he was putting pressure on HIMSELF, but then i heard elmo sing "accidents happen" and felt a little better.
