Potty Training Cloth Trainer Questions

Hello,
We are about to embark on potty training in 2 months. I currently use FuzziBunz and love them - they have always worked great for us. I am now looking for a training pant that is cloth as well.
Does anyone out there have any recommendations of ones they have used and worked? My baby is a boy, if that matters.

I am going to try just going right for the adult potty with a smaller seat on top. Research tells me that the baby bjorn is the best one. Any thoughts on that? Suggestions?

I'm just gathering the supplies I will need now and I am open to any suggestions people have.
Thanks!!

So What Happened?

Thanks for your feedback everyone. I love the Little Beetle pants!! I will pick some of those up for sure. I decided to start training at 18 months, and hope it works out. I just don't want to wait until he is 2+ years old - but we will see how it works.
Thanks again.

We just went to K-Mart and bought the cloth training pants in the baby section. They are extra-thick in the area that matters, but thinner (and thus more breathable) elsewhere. We also bought some plastic pants to go over the training undies, to help contain the leakage.

I used the Gerber cotton training undies. I bought 3- 3packs. We never had too many accidents, so regular undies would have been fine too.

For the toilet, we got a seat from Home Depot with the child-seat built into the lid. It is always there, doesn't wobble or tip, you don't have to take it on& off b/c is hinged and nestles into the lid (magnet holds it up) when just using the adult seat.

My favorite step stool is the "Especially for Baby" step stool $9. easy to clean, carry, good grips on the feet.

You might consider a small portable potty to train with and keep in the car. We gave our lil' lots of fluid when training, so it was nice to have the potty in the playroom for a few days. We keep a little potty in the car for emergencies too. Pottete Plus is what we have. My daughter likes to use the "little red potty". (it comes in a variety of colors).

Have fun potty training!

I picked up a toilet seat from Target while training second son. It is a standard toilet seat with an insert that folds down underneath the regular one with the smaller seat. I loved it, he loved it, it worked out so great. I had used the training potty for my first son and it was a pain in the booty. Cleaning it out and messes, etc. And when he got a little better on the training, he'd go #2 in there and not tell us and I'd find it hours later smellng up the house.

I also went from diapers to the gerber (I think) cotton training pants with the vinyl covers you can buy (Target or anywhere else I'm sure). I did have some disposable pull ups for trips, etc, but they seemed to work just fine. So good luck to you in your adventures. Hope that helps.

I'm a cloth diaper user as well and I went back and forth on whether to invest in trainers but I am using a combo of the gerber pants and bare bottom around the house. My little one isn't ready to go without diapers when we are on the go but even then I will probably use one of my pocket diapers with maybe just a slim hemp liner or newborn liner to catch any accidents.

I have the very inexpensive potty chair from IKEA which has worked amazingly well since my little one started training at 17 months. She was/is able to get to it and get on and off by herself with no trouble.

Just curious-why in 2 months? I followed my little ones lead and let her tell me when she was ready. How old is your son?

I bought the Gerber pants and a pack of 3 was only 6.89 at Target. I found it was cheaper than any online places, though maybe Walmart might be? My daughter is not quite ready yet but the 2 times I put them on her so far, no messes.

Someone just suggested "Little Beetle" to me yesterday. They are soft and cloth, and made to hold that little accident on the way to the potty, but are not water resistant like pull ups. The bonus is that they have snaps on the side, so you can do the quick out if necessary.

We have the Bjorn little potty and that got him used to the idea. Then someone on here suggested the PRIMO 4-in-1, and he seems to like this better. The seat comes off, so he can use it either way. He is just showing some interest right now, and is reacting positively to the Primo.

**Adding this: yes, the Gerber training pants can be found at Walmart. I had gotten some from there too.

Training pants/underwear that I use is:
1) Gerber Training Pants, which is cotton and padded lightly
Here is a link:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3...

2) Potty Scotty Training Pants, which is also cotton and padded lightly
Here is the link:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3...

I like them both a lot. Except Potty Scotty is more expensive.
You can find both brands on Amazon or E-Bay.

As for pottying: I use(d) a potty chair. The Baby Bjorn one. Here is the link for the one I use(d) for my kids:
http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Bjorn-Large-Potty-Chair/dp/B00...

Bear in mind, each child is different. And potty "training" will succeed or not depending on if the child is ready for it.... and if their biological/bodily signals are developed yet... and their nerve development etc.

good luck,
Susan

I used all different kinds of cloth trainers with my daughter. Some she liked, others she didn't. I found the ones with the snaps on the side to be really helpful especially with #2 accidents. It was way less messy, but really any #2 accident is a mess : ) I bought the Gerber trainers because they were cheaper, but they didn't hold up well to the leaks. I used the Little Beetle trainers also and those were her favorites. They are bamboo and soft and cozy and have the side snaps. they were bulkier than Gerber and have a velour-like feel to them, so they were hard to tug her pants over. I purchased lots of trainers on Etsy too...just to try the different styles. It was expensive...so expensive. I know a lot of people who use AIO's just use them for potty training as well. In the end, the trainers were only used for a few weeks and she wanted underwear. She did better with undies than trainers, go figure. We have the Baby Bjorn potty seat, and it is great. Not comfy, but great. It doesn't move or slip like others, and it is easier to clean. Good luck!

Ya know, I trained all three of my kids in one day. I know it is hard to believe but never did I have to use the pull ups or training pants. A huge part of the training though was them being able to completely manage the process themselves so we did not graduate to the small potty seat on the big toilet until they were big enough to get up there themselves.

With my first I started with a book called "Potty Training in a Day". I followed it to the letter and it worked like a charm. He was potty trained by noon that day and NEVER had an accident, even at night. For the second one I used some of the techniques in the book but modified it quite a bit to suit his personality. He really responded well to bribery and added a treat/toy bowl to the mix. He was potty trained by 2pm on the first day, NEVER an accident. With the third, I followed the book a bit closer than the second one but still introduced some bribery since she is quite stubborn. Believe it or not, the two boys trained faster than my girl, she took a full day.

Three key components though are; have them do it themselves and make the decisions themselves, be sure to wait to train for when they no longer wet their pants at night, and last be sure they are at the stage where they are not in the so-called "Terrible Twos", when they are in this stage they are so defiant and it will not work. I waited until they would listen readily and understood the concept of what was going on. Starting too early just causes problems.

Probably more than you wanted to know but hope it helps.

Good luck.
