Potty Training Regression - Merrimack,NH

My daughter is 3 and has been potty trained for about 3 months. However, the last two weeks she has decided that going on the potty isn't worth her time. She poops in her pants almost every time she has a bowel movement and has even started having pee accidents too. I'm almost 100% sure that these are not "accidents" meaning I think she is fully capable of getting to the potty. There haven't been any big changes in our life. Any insight as to what is causing this and what to do about it?

What can I do next?

My daughter trained at 3 yrs, 3 months and did great for a long time!
(Maybe 6 months?) and then started having lots of accidents. Made me crazy at the time! I considered putting her back in diapers, but was warned against this by her preschool teacher. She just kept telling me to stay calm, have her help clean up her accidents and wash out her undies, and that she would eventually get back with the program, which is exactly what happened. It is so frustrating, but hang in there!

I have a 3 1/2 year old who is in a similar place, except she will never have a poop accident but she has pee accidents every day and has been trained for about 9 months. Part of it is their age...they don't want to stop what they are doing for fear of missing out on something or sometimes they are just lazy. I try to remember to tell my daughter to go potty every so often throughout the day and that helps a lot. It is very frustrating for sure. i think we have to try to be patient with them. I know my daughter also does it as a control thing...when she gets put in a time out she almost always pees her pants on purpose. She keep giving her reminders to go. Best of luck!

Since you say she is potty trained I would guess these aren't accidents as well. I'd tell her that if she wants to be a baby she's going to start wearing diapers again, and that she can't do the things big girls do (certain toys, going to school, etc.) Also sit her on the potty as I'm guessing you did at times during training and (as awful as it seems) enlist her help when cleaning up the accidents.

When my nephew who trained at a little over 2, and was 3 at the time he went through this, my sister got advice from a doctor to have him watch her wash out his underwear in the sink, and explain that the next time he would be doing it. So, she did and the next poop in his pants she told tell him, "OK, now you have to wash them out." He went to the sink, lips trembling, holding tears back, but washed them with the bar of soap she'd used, rinsed them, and never had another "accident."
