I don't have a boy so this may be different.. I brought books in the bathroom with me and had her sit on the toliet and I read her a book so she could sit there for a while. Don't get frustrated though because Children can sense that!

GOOD LUCK!!

Hi:

I potty trained my daughter last summer, she was 2 1/2. Summer was the best time. We let her run around the yard in just undies. Asked her if she had to go about every 20 minutes. Accidents were no big deal and we had a portable potty outside in case she couldnt make it inside. It only took a few weeks and she has been fine ever sense. Good Luck

The way I did my children is to leave the potty in the living room where the child can see it..Every hr I would sit them on it if they went on the potty I would make a huge deal dance the more you give it a huge deal for going on the potty like what a big boy/girl they are awesome job.It also when you go into the bathroom to empty it bring them with you let them flush and then wash hands the whole time making a big deal about what a good job you did..reward them with something like fruit, freeze pop, even a piece of candy but not always candy just once in a while.. Here are some things I have done and they did work for me..Hope this gives you some idea on what will work for you and your child..Good Luck and Happy Potty Training :)

My son will be 3 in August and shows no interest in potty training. I have been getting discourged, but his doctor and daycare provider say it's normal for boys to not train til between 3 & 4 years old. My son will pee on the potty once in a while, but that's only a few times a week at most, and hasn't thought about trying #2 yet. I'd love some tips, too! But I am told not to worry yet. I'd LOVE to get him out of diapers! :)

you need to make it fun for him, buy him some decorated pull ups and go with him to the bathroom, have him learn to use the pull ups and sit there and make him laugh so he knows its ok. Kids are scared.

My daughter wore her last diaper on her third birthday and my son was potty trained a week before his third birthday. I initiated the potty several times but I never pushed the issue. I figured that when they were ready, they would do it. Also, children need to learn bladder control and every child is different. If your son is waking up with a dry diaper he may be ready. Another thing you could try is to buy him "big boy" undies and let him run around in just those on a hot day. That way he doesn't have any obstructions, like his pants, to get in his way when he gets to the toilet. Expect accidents, but don't get discourged.

my son who will be 3 in August has been training, if we are in the house I have him run around in just a long t-shirt and he does great, goes every time. but as soon as I put pants on him (with diaper or big boy undies) he won't go. so I am hoping soon he will. good luck!

Hi S., Well let me see, first off make it fun, never get angry. My 31/2 yr old has been pretty much potty trained for 1 yr now, so I started at 21/2 as well. She caught on right away with the peeing, and hardly had any accidents. But.. the pooping just came, in fact a few days ago. She had the control, and knew she was suppose to go in the toilet, but she kept telling me she was scared that she would fall in. My husband and I tried everything from stools, to potty seats, to bribing her with gifts ect... Nothing worked. She did however make it easy in the sense that she would only go at home. My pedo kept telling me that when she is ready she will go, well one day she woke up and said I need to poop, she went into the bathroom and did it all by herself!! YEA!! So this is my story, and I hope it helps. Remember all children are different and have their own ways. Good luck!

My daughter was a little difficult at this, but I'm potty training my 2 1/2 year old son right now also. What seems to be working pretty well for me, I have a potty chart it's a choo choo train, and the tracks are where you put an X. I draw a blue X for poop and a green X for pee, (he gets a kick out of that) he loves to see which color X we'll draw next. He knows when the chart is all filled up he gets a prize. Also We give him lots of praise when he does go, so he thinks it's the greatest thing.

Hi S.,
Does your son like Elmo?? My daughter is obsessed and I bought Elmo's potty time dVd. We must watch it at least 5 times a day. I bought it a month ago and she is only 21 months old but now she wacks her bum and says peepee - or poopoo... I think it's a great start!! I am not pushing her but it's great to know that she is starting to know when she goes.

Good luck!

We are actually in the process of potty training my 2 1/2 year old as well. I went to the dollar store and Wal-Mart and bought some cheap toys and party noise makers and put them in a basket near the bathroom. We ask him if he needs to go pee about every 30-45 mins. When he does he go pee in the potty he's allowed to get 1 toy from the basket and we make the noise makers go off for him. If he doesn't go, we still reinforce positive attention for him trying.
I hope this helped!!

Hi S.

I have twin boys (now age 6) but when I was potty training them, the 2 things I did religiously was 1., I had them try going to the bathroom EVERY 1/2 hour. It may sound excessive but it really worked. And 2., it didnt matter where they tried going, just that they at least tried. I would take their potty chairs into whatever room they were playing, they thought it was "fun". But the most important this was to be consistent with it. They were trained buy 3 with no accidents at night.
Best of luck!

Hello S.:

I have a son who is also 2.5 and we just strated the process. He goes to daycare 4 days a week, so they have been helping. At first we put him on the potty every hour on the hour and would sometimes get results and most of the time, nothing. You know how everyone says "you will see that he is ready or you can read his signs"? That is true - at first he would go and not really know, now he can "feel" it(while on the potty). We put him on the potty at the "normal" times now. When he wakes up, an hour or two after breakfast, before nap, after nap, before car rides, after rides, etc. He has now begun to say, "uh oh, I have peepee or i did poopie", if he didn't go on the potty (which is not often at all). I don't know about you, but I was not sure about the siting/standing thing? My son still sits and then we shall move on to the standing process once he has mastered this? I hope this has helped a bit??!!??!?
