Hello, I have never dealt with this at these ages; but is there a possibility of stress outside the home that they might be reacting to and maybe afraid to talk to you about? They may very well have small bladders and just can't hold it that long. Try getting them a watch with an alarm that is set for every 30 minutes or so to remind them that they need to stop and go whether they need to or not and maybe it will set a timer off in their internal clock. I hope this will help. D.

Hylands makes a homeopathic bedwetting tablet that stopped night wetting for my nephew at 10 years old.

Have you taken them to a Urologist. I had a medical condition that required surgery. I was in 3rd grade when it was diagnosed and the surgery was performed. It was the best thing my parents ever did. I have not had any problems since then.

There are pads you can get that have wetness alarms that you can put on the bed. There are also ones you can put in their underwear. The other option, which might be an option, although my doctor would only recommend it over the age of 7 is a sensor that will give them a little shock when it gets wet. I was hesitant to use it, but I've talked with people who did and they were very pleased with the results.

Its a tough situation, my oldest one will still have accidents during a growth spurt because his bladder hasn't caught up with his body. Good luck!

Believe me, they will grow out of it. I was skeptical too until my son just stopped wetting the bed one night. His urologists advice was to NEVER wake them up to go potty. This can only cause more wetting in the future because they are not ever fully awake when you take them potty. In the future it can cause them to have dreams where they think they are going into the bathroom and actually they are still in their beds when they pee.

There is a pill available that works on some kids, it helps concentrate their pee until their bodies go through puberty and start producing it on their own. (Some kids have bodies that don't produce this chemical until puberty, causing the majority of child bed wetting) The pills didn't work for my son, we just had to wait it out. He is also a very hard sleeper.

**On another note...when my son did start staying dry all night it was because older sister was going away to summer camp and he wanted to know why he never got to go to one. I told him that I was NOT sending an 8 yr old child to camp with pullups and that I would send him to a summer camp as soon as he outgrew the wetting. I think within 3 weeks he never had another accident. Huge difference for a kid who had NEVER kept the bed dry in his whole life. I really think for him it was mind over matter. He also convinced himself to sleep lighter, when I asked him how he stopped wetting he said he went to sleep every night telling himself he would not wet the bed, he would not wet the bed, he would not wet the bed. Strange, but it worked for him. Like I said though, his body was already producing the chemical it needed, he just needed to sleep lighter and to somehow wake up when he needed to pee. He is 9 now and still gets up at least once a night to potty. He is also going to church camp for the 2nd time!!!

Hi T..

I have had the same problem with my 10 year old who is also a hard sleeper. Has your Dr. said anything about an alarm? I didn't have to use one but I know someone who did and it helped. We are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with our son. We were all frustrated but to make it easier on myself I would have him unmake his bed and bring his wet sheets to me. Here is a website that sells the alarms and also has other products that might make life easier on you, it is http://www.bedwettingstore.com. Good luck!

If you haven't already, try to get caffeine out of their diet in the evenings. Caffeine weakens the bladder. When I was younger, I stopped drinking soda after 6 p.m. and the problem went away. Too much soda can weaken not only the bladder, but hurt the kidneys as well.

Also just waking them in the middle of the night for a week, will make it a habit for them. They will wake on their own and make a trip to the restroom in the middle of the night.

Buy a MAYLEM monitor for each of your boys. They will stop wetting the bed in no time! Really works! There is no shock with this one, an alarm wakes them up when there is a little wetness. The kids begin to feel when they have to go and get up and do it before the alarm sounds. I have one with different alarm sounds so you never get used to the sound.

There are training pants in the One Step Ahead magazine that have a sensor that sets off an alarm if it senses wetness. You might try that. Good luck! I can't imagine still having issues at 7 & 14.

My son had the same problem for about 6 yrs. We tried the same methods you are: stopping fluids well before bed time, waking him up numerous times in the night, even medication from the doc etc..None of those methods worked out for us. However, we ordered a bed wetting alarm, which worked very well. See below link.

Our Dr. indicated early on, that once he starting going thru puberty this should subside on its own. It finally stopped about 3 three months ago!

First off..take them out of pullups. By putting them in them it sends a signal to their brains that it is okay to let go the urine. My step daughter's mom kept her in pullups until she was nine and my pedi confirmed this thought. you can get on bedwetting.com and buy really good bed pads to protect their sheets and mattresses. We are using the moisture sensored panties/underwear w/ the bedwetting alarm and it has been effective so far. Their body needs to make the connection w/ the brain that sends the signal for them to wake up to go to the bathhroom. I would get on the bedwetting website. There is a plethora of info about kids who have never conquered bedwetting and those who have but have suddenly began wetting the bed again. It is frustrating for all but you can promote success!

I would take them to a urologist. A 14 year old is not going to grow out of it.

We liked Clanton Harrison. He operated on my 5 month old a few years ago.

Good luck!

I would see a different Dr by now, have you seen a pediatric urologist? There's a great group at Children's in Dallas. Also one at Baylor Grapevine but we did not like him at all. My 9r old nephew was still having accidents and they finally put him on meds and it has helped tremendously.

That's so weird that I had the same problem and my boys are the same ages. I got them to drink more fluids in a shorter period of time during to day ( try to get them to drink more water) When they get use to having fuller bladders, then the "no liquids" about an hour or two before bed will work. I also have my younger son to go to the bathroom right before bed.

Are they ages 7 and 14 years? If so,there are a few possibilities. One is constipation-I know it seems silly, but if they have hard stool sitting in their gut it can push on the bladder and make them pee.Have they seen a urologist? Also, there is a very safe medication that can be given to help concentrate their urine so that they wont have bedwetting. But they should have their urine and electrolytes checked first .The medicine is called DDAVP and any pediatrician should know about it.
Any more questions, feel free to ask.

My nephew had that problem; he slept so soundly he could not wake up during the night. The urologist put him on meds and it worked. He is now in his mid-twenties and has no more problems.

Try removing dairy from their diets for at least two weeks. A hidden dairy allergy (far more common than most folks realize) can irritate the bladder and cause this problem. I didn't find out about my dairy allergy until I was 32 (I wet the bed til I was 10). Neither of my two sons were wet at nite after they were 3 and I think it's because by then we were all on non-cow based milk either rice of soy at that time. You can find the alternative milks at most grocery stores nowadays, as well as alternative ice creams. The alternative cheeses leave alot to be desired. However, these restriction are far less likely to have the impact on your boys' self esteem than bedwetting as they get older.

At their ages they should have already "grown-out" of this issue. Please read the following research, and if you need a referral to find a doctor near you, email me and I'll find you a good one. We used a bedwetting alarm. It is a miracle. Loud but, miraculous! You can find them online or pharmacy. I have lent mine to two other moms both with the same results. Good luck!

Hi T.,

Have you tried taking the boys to a chiropractor? The nerves that supply the bladder come out of the spine. If there are areas of the spine that are out of place it will put pressure on the nerves. The pressure will not allow the nerves to function properly. Having the boys adjusted and removing the nerve interference can help the bladder to function properly. I have successfully treated many children for bedwetting and it can made a world of difference! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call me at ###-###-#### or visit my website at sullivanchiropractic.com Thank you! Dr. Sandra S.

Didn't see this mentioned. The problem may be their sleep patterns more than their bladder. After much trial & error with all the methods suggested by other moms, a dr suggested I check with a sleep specialist for my 7 yr old.

Turns out he wasn't going through the normal sleep cycles. Not surprising since my sister & I both have sleep issues. With a very small dose of sleep aid, the bedwetting stopped.

Just another route to check when nothing else seems to work. Good luck!
